My daughter and I saw a booth for furniture refinishing at a trade show in Markham inJan. or Feb. 2007. Mr. Peacock came to our separate homes on Mar. 13th. My daughter has her own story with the same theme. Here's mine.

After a presentation lasting over an hour, complete with reference letters, photos and Mr. Peacock's assurance this company has never had a complaint made by a customer to the BBB, we signed a contract.

This contract was over twice the price of two other quotes I'd had, but due to the number of spring coils in my chair, and my love for this chair (I called it the comfiest chair in the world) I placed my faith in Master Craftsman.

Big mistake!

We agreed on a price of $1398.65 Mr. Peacock was very upset when I stroked out and initialed a little sticker he'd placed on the contract saying there may be additional costs should their craftsman discover any repairs which needed to be made which were not described on the contract.

I was already feeling like I was being hosed. I told him I expected the repairs to be complete and thorough for the price I was paying.

My daughter told me someone from the company had called her and said they needed more money for fixing the cushions. This information prepared me for the phone call I received shortly afterwards.

To fix my cushion "properly", Master Craftsman needed another $150.00. I was outraged! I told him the whole premise of the sales pitch was that the job would be done properly. After listening to some sarcasm and insolence from this "craftsman" and a couple of calls to customer service where I pointed out I was in serious doubt of the ethics of this company and quite prepared to come and collect my chair, a man named Dave (who has since then been fired) told me everything would be done properly.

I wasn't contacted again until the chair was finished. Then, although I had told the person a date, which was within twelve weeks as we'd agreed in the contract, the phone harrassment began. He called me at work (a school) and had me called out of class several times -actually until the secretary could recognize his voice, and, at my request, refused to call me. He left messages at home and called my husband at his work several times, as well. He even tried threatening to charge me storage fees until I pointed out it was their contract! Unbelievable!

Long story short, when I brought the chair home, my husband said it looked like a highschool project. The back of the chair is rounded and the cushion was made square. the whole thing looks lopsided, the chair legs aren't even so it is unsteady, the arms of the chair are wiggly, the threads are pulled right in the middle of the back cushion, and the most upsetting thing for me is that what once was the comfiest chair in the world, is now about as cozy as a church pew.

This company is as crooked as they come. Beware!
