The Framingham School of Oom Yung Doe (also known as Chung Moo Doe and Chung Moo Quan) owes me a minimum of 1972.38 in overcharges. In addition I believe they are in violation of my rights against unfair and deceptive business practices.
My request for remedy has been denied by the school. Please find supporting materials in the files section under "one way out-a students jouney out of moo".
I have followed all reasonable procedures in seeking to remedy this situation. My efforts have, however, been frustrated by the schools' unwillingness to resolve this situation.
As stated in my original letter to the school, I no longer work in Framingham and have moved my place of employment more than 25 miles from this school. Meanwhile I have been overcharged for the used portion (6 months) of my 2 year contract. This is a simple fact of paying for product not received, outlined as follows:
Cost of product- $9250 for 2 years instruction beginning 4-30-3 Amount of product received- 25% of total OR 6 months ($2312.50 worth) Amount paid- $4284.88 Overpayment = $1972.38 (amount paid minus product received)
On or about April 18th 2003, the following unfair and deceptive act occurred:
The School of Oom Yung Doe and it's instructors conspired to and successfully convinced me and other students to sign up for a 2 year international "8 martial arts" black belt program or course by using unfair and deceptive tactics.
There was intense regularity and increasing frequency to these conversations since my original sign up in November 2002, eventually occurring before and after every lesson.
I was given conditional deadlines, which made it clear that the sooner I brought down the payment, the sooner I could maximize my development in martial arts.
After speaking with Mike McKay, Brad Heilman and Rob Lucier I was assured that there was nothing to be concerned about regarding the authenticity and history of this school. I was also assured again that there would be Tai Chi training as it is among the 8 martial arts they claim to teach. My primary reason for seeking instruction back in November was for Tai Chi training and it is advertised on all of the sales materials I saw. With regards to consumer rights, this practice is deceptive and unfair.
There was in fact no Tai Chi instruction, Oom Yung Doe is not internationally recognized and, as I confirmed later, the grandmaster John C. "Iron" Kim as well as Mike McKay (National level Instructor who teaches at the Framingham, Marlborough, Waltham and Somerville schools) and others in the school did in fact serve time for federal tax conspiracy directly related to the school of Oom Yung Doe (see Federal tax case 95-CR-214-1). I clearly could no longer trust these people.
All students at the Oom Yung Doe schools are being defrauded regarding the authenticity of training offered there. Although there is no law against lying, when it is done in business as way to defraud the consumer and the government or law enforcement officials of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, it does become an illegal act.
This organization is not what they claim to be. There is clearly false advertising, bait and switch tactics and potentially a repeat of the many public offenses which this school carried out in the 1990's. Those actions led to the conviction of John C Kim and his underlings on charges of witness tampering, destruction of evidence, and defrauding the American taxpayers. This is a dangerous cult-like group.
I am not using exaggeration here, but merely presenting a
link to what has already been proven in the articles and evidence surrounding the federal tax case 95-CR-214-1.
