I bought airline tickets through Orbitz for myself, my son and grandson. Travel insurance was purchased along with the airline tickets. The tickets were to Spain where we were to board a cruise ship. The receipt showed that I was charged once for the
travel insurance.

Shortly before the departure date I was admitted to the hospital. Due to doctors orders I was not able to travel. Because the date of cancellation had passed I was not able to get a refund for either the airline tickets or the cruise.

I had my son call Orbitz to find out how to make a claim against the travel insurance. When my son called he was told that we had THREE active insurance policies that we were charged for. After he told them he wanted to make a claim
he was told he should cancel the other two policies.

He asked them why there were three policies to begin with since the receipt only showed a charge for one. They told him they did not know.

He asked them if the other policies would be needed to receive the full refund for the trip. He was told no. They stated to him that everything would be covered under one policy and that the charge for the other two policies would be refunded.

In the meantime, the flight from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia on USAirways had no crew and after six hours was cancelled. My son also discussed with Orbitz about making a claim for a hotel in Barcelona that could not be used due to the flight never leaving.

He was sent two packets of information to fill out to make claims against the insurance policy. Upon filling out and submitting the claim forms we were told that the policy does not cover ANY prepaid expenses. We argued with them that EVERYTHING while traveling is a prepaid expense.

The first claim has been denied completely.

The second claim is pending but we are now told that if approved it will only cover one third of the money we have lost.

Bottom line is this, the insurance policy is a complete scam and covers nothing. Orbitz knowingly triple charged us and fraudulently only showed one of the charges.

Upon realizing that a claim was going to be made they lied and changed the policies so that they would not have to pay on any of the policies.

The policy was purchased in good faith in the unlikely event something would happen. Something did happen and now Orbitz is making sure that no money will be retrieved from the policy under any circumstances.
