Myself, my sister and my 18yr 9 month pregnant daughter all met at SaltGrass Steakhouse in Irving, on July 3, 2009, to enjoy lunch, then do some shopping. We don't all live together, and we just got together when we met there. We all had seperate meals, but shared some cheese fries as an appetizer, and they shared some seasoned mushrooms, which they made me try a couple, with their meals. Within 30 minutes of leaving there, my sister and I both became sick, so sick, we had to cut the shopping short, quickly and go home. My daughter and I live about 30 minutes from where we were. I couldn't even make it home and had to stop and use the restroom, and had a violent episode of diarrhea. I finally made it home, where this continued for a while, and my stomach continued even longer to feel like it was twisted in knots! I called my sister, and she informed me that she experienced the exact same thing when she got home. Then about an hour later, my 37wk, pregnant daughter began to violantly throw up, while having diarrhea at the same time. She got so sick that she felt as if she was going to pass out. I immediatley contacted her doctor who told me to get her to the hospital. We went to the woman's hospital where she is to deliver, and they put her on monitors and an IV with meds to stop her nausea. She started having faint contractions, that they said were brought on by her dehydration from being so sick. We contacted the store manager the next day to tell him about what happened. We weren't looking for anything other then just to inform them. He said that he would pass it on to corporate and they would handle it.

Well, we expected a phone call, apologizing for what happened, and that would be the end. Instead, we got a very hostile phone call from Emily, at their corporate office in Houston on Wednesday, July 8, telling us, basically that we couldn't prove it, so they don't care! They treated us like we were lying! That told us to get medical records, and they had nothing else to say. We tried to contact an exec asst to see if maybe this person was just crazy and we could get this all straightened out. We couldn't even get passed the Admin, who passed our message on, but said she doubted anyone would be calling back! Unbelievable. All we really were looking for was an apology, and to let them know that their food made someone sick! We all received a letter this same date from corporate stating they investigated (I don't know how... they never talked to us!) and they found they did nothing wrong!

Well, needless to say this has know turned into much more. We are getting medical records today, which states what happened to my daughter because of eating at SaltGrass and I will be faxing them a copy along with a note letting them know we are no longer interested in just an apology!

Thanks!

Wait, which restaurant was it?

Your report title says Outback Steak House, but the report text says SaltGrass Steakhouse. So which is it? I'm assuming SaltGrass as they do have a location at the address you gave.

And I agree with Hugh. You won't contract violent food poisoning within 30 minutes of eating tainted food.

It's not the restaurant

If you all got sick within a half hour of eating at the Outback it was caused by something else. Food poisoning usually takes up to 8-10 hours to develop. No bug can make you sick in 30 minutes after exposure. Any good doctor will tell you that.

Illness

Unfortunately that's what you have to do.

You bear the burden of proof when trying to prove food poisoning. You went to a doctor, what did they diagnose your daughter with? Salmonella? E coli? I would like to know what particular food borne illness your daughter contracted.

These cases can be difficult to prove, since anything eaten in the last 24 hours could have caused it. I wish you luck but you will have a battle ahead of you.
