There was a special Outward Bound Course in Colorado called Heroic Journey, it stated the cost at $0 and said it was for grieving teens to come together for one week of back-packing. I called up months in advance to ask about signing up.
They said there was a non-refundable $100 application fee for them to take the time to do a questionaire and file your information and $125 for round trip transportation to & from the airport. She then said they would send an online packet listing all the necessary essentials for the course which she confirmed was at no additional cost.
So I did the questionaire, I signed their papers, it took a month or so to get around to, but I did, I was still awaiting approval before booking my flight. One of the last papers I had to fill out discussed some sort of financial assistance and asked for me to apply for the scholarship.. I was confused about this since I assumed I was all paid up and said whatever this was it was unnessesary since I'd already paid everything that was owed.
A few days after I sent the paper work back I got a disturbing call basically saying the course was not free and that it was actually approximately $1300 and the financial scholarship would help cover between 50-100% of that cost which they determined for me would be an additional $525 I owed..
So I was like wait a minute this course was suppose to be free, a special program for grieving teens I read the entire description of the course and no where in fine print did it say anything about a course cost for this particular program.. I did see them mention the application and transpotation fee but that was the only cost mentioned..
When I returned to the website 2-3 months after intially looking up the program I saw they edited the course and were now asking $225.. I was completely shocked.. So I discussed the situation with my dad and I decided it was not worth paying an extra $525 hidden cost plus the cost of the flight out there.. now another month or so later and they send an email stating that they regretfully decline me from the program due to a lack of response from multiple emails sent..
Plain and simple they lied, they robbed my dad & I of $225 and tried to get us for an additional $525 and act like that's how the course was laid out the entire time and that I must be crazy.. well I am not, I know what I saw and I know what I read and I know what I heard.. Crooks
