Outwater Plastics Suzy Martinez Penalized for going on vacation Bogata, New Jersey

Outwater Plastics is a large supplier of specialty building materials, Having been a longtime customer I contacted them and placed a large order for metal handrail balusters. I was told that due to the weight common carrier could not be used, I said OK, process the order. Several weeks passed and it was time for my yearly vacation, I went on a cruise, came back home 2 weeks later and noticed a fax in my machine regarding the order. Apparently Fedex had been trying to contact me to setup delivery, I called Outwater and was told Fedex had been holding my order and an additional $300 for storage would be added to my order. At the time I placed my order nothing about delivery dates was mentioned, nothing about my needing to be home to accept the order. I find these charges to be excessive and unfair, while speaking to Suzzane she showed no interest in working anything out, this was clearly my problem that she wanted nothing to do with. To summarize, what could I have done different ?, prior to my leaving for vacation I would have had to think about this order, called them, make plans for delivery while I was away. What did I do ? Went on vacation hoping that when I got home there would be a package waiting for me, instead I have a $300 bill waiting for me.. One more point of contention, even though the entire transaction was done VIA Email, not one Email did I receive from them trying to contact me for delivery, had that been done I could have arranged for delivery while on vacation, thanks, Gene...
