Ok, so for an inexperienced person looking to purchase moving insurance online, they SEEM like a good way to go.
You can get it last minute, and you're totally covered, right? Well, maybe not....

What you may NOT notice is the fine print that this insurance will only cover you for a TOTAL LOSS, which means that if you get this insurance on your move, like I did, and your household items are damaged, you are covered for.... NOTHING!

That's right. When I called up, they didn't even ask my name or policy number- they just said to read the contract and see that I was only covered for total loss.

Now, granted this is better than nothing, but unless the whole moving truck explodes or is swallowed up in an earthquake, you aren't covered.

I don't know if they offer "real moving insurance," that protects your possessions, if they are damaged in transit, but just be aware that if that's what you're seeking, this may not be the company for you.

I disputed the charge, citing misleading advertising, but it didn't help. I think the parent company is not in the U.S. which probably helps them and hurts us, the consumers.

My suggestion: Find a better moving insurance company.

policy coverage

When you deal with a reseller such as PAF Insurance (Pacific Atlantic Freight) you run into line items in their terms of service or policy that seem vague at best but this is a gray area.

Since you did not really read the policy, you got what you paid for but I will add that a reputable company would have made sure you were covered correctly, gone over your coverage prior to purchase and then had you sign off.

Ashlee Pope is just a reseller, nothing more. As the owner, she will not give a hoot if you are covered and her personality and business management would be enough to stop using them.

They have a poor record from what I heard and talk a good game but when they are called upon to do what is right, they are like shipsurance.com, they will run and hide behind the very small print of their policy and leave you hanging out to dry!

Here at PAF Insurance, we offer two different coverage types that are fully explained on our website and to every potential customer that calls. Our basic coverage covers partial or total damage or loss resulting from a fire, collision, or over-turning of the conveyance (truck, plane, boat); it also covers theft and non delivery of the entire shipment. Our all risk coverage covers all risks of physical loss or damage resulting from any cause excluding war, terrorism or improper packaging.

This individual chose the basic coverage which did not cover the particular type of damage incurred during the transit of his/her items. It is an unfortunate occurrence, but in no way was this individual misled as to the type of coverage that was being supplied, like he/she would lead you to believe.

We strive to make sure that every potential customer is made fully aware of the terms and conditions of the coverage provided. It is up to the individual to choose the coverage they would like to purchase, we do not make that choice for them.

Furthermore, our reputation with our customers is very important to us. We have an abundant number of cliental who use our insurance frequently and refer our services to anyone who needs it. Since 1984, we have continued to provide excellent customer service to our customers and look forward to continuing to do so.
