BEWARE! This particular Pak Mail, #299, charged fees of $70 on $155 of DHL packages after lying to me and saying there was no extra charges. I had them back out the labels, and I printed them myself. I'm still waiting for my credit card to be credited the $225. they charged me. The owner became rude & insultive after I brought in prepaid packages for DHL pickup, and I tried to tell her that her charges should be disclosed to customers upfront. She insisted that's not something customers should be told. She told me to take my packages elsewhere for pickup, then when I walked into back room to get 2 of my packages, where SHE put them, she called the police on me, and kept coming over to try and look at my packages to get my name, even after I told her to get away from my packages. The police talked to me, but did not inform me that I was not allowed in her store, so I went back in to tell her that I would be reporting her to DHL and the BBB, and she called the police again! I was told not to go there again, like I ever would anyhow!

How can these people get away with charging such overinflated prices for their services & supplies? I mean, come on, $16.00 to send a 13 lb package via DHL when the same package sent directly thru DHL is only $10.00! Ridiculous. All businesses need to make a profit, this is true, but that's rather extreme, don't ya think?

The owner of this store is extremely rude, and seems to think that customers don't have the right to know beforehand what their fees are going to be for shipping packages. They do not know the meaning of customer service and respect. CONSUMER BEWARE!

Profit Margins as Public Information

Most of the rudeness I gather from this report is on the part of the person reporting this. Since he wants this shipping business to publicize their 'charges' up front, I can assume that when he goes to the Post Office or to WalMart or to Target or to his local supermarket, he chats with the managers of all those business about having them reveal all their profit margins up front. Surely he'd insist on knowing how much the $3.00 container of milk actually cost the supermarket. If not, he should give it a try.

Hmmm. What this guy objects to is apparently paying retail for retail services.

I was in this business for a few years, and it was interesting how many people think that the shipping business--and the shipping business alone--should provide two prices: their cost and their retail. What other business does this? Go ahead, give me the long list? Oh, can't do it? I wonder why.

And then this guy says he tromped into the back of the store to retrieve his package(s). Oh, really. I'm not surprised that the owner/manager called the cops! There are the packages of other customers back there, and other valuable items. There are liabilities to be considered. And this is coming from a customer who already is upset & p____d off. Who knows what he's thinking or what his motives might be going to the back of the store.

And in many cases with these business, they are operating under Department of Homeland Security regulations that require the owner/management to prevent non-employees from 'going in the back'. And by the way, the owner must train himself and his employees on THOSE rules, which is another reason why they charge more than their cost.

But there is always the solution for those who don't like to pay retail. Do it yourself, don't ask a business to do it for you for nothing, or in the case of shipping, you can have DHL come pick it up at your place. Of course, they will charge you what?, $7 or $10 pickup charges for the privilege, and you might have to be at home when their driver shows up--how does that match up with your work schedule?

Retail shippers like that Pak Mail offer convenience and a lot more. This complainer has undoubtedly never run his own retail business, never paid rent to a commercial landlord, never paid for commercial liability insurance, never paid his employer share of Social Security taxes and worker's comp taxes, never trained himself and all his employees on VERY complicated, detail-oriented procedures, rules, and regulations from a variety of companies and agencies, and still try to serve customers with a smile even while the customer is accusing them of being crooks & lying thieves. And still make enough money to pay for having all that fun.

Don't pay much attention to this fellow's complaints--it is he who has a problem.
