Palisades Collection LLC TRYING TO COLLECT ON DEBT OVER 8 YEARS OLD Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey

We have been out of the State of NJ for just over 8 years.  2 years in upstate NY and 6 1/2 years in Florida.  Last week my husband received a letter from the Palisades Collection Agency, LLC from Englewood Cliffs, NJ for a Verizon phone bill.  It had a NJ number as the account number.  We do not recall ever having Verizon we had NJ Bell and that turned into AT&T.  Anyway even if we did, the Statute of Limitations has expired as we couldn't possibly have been using a phone in NJ while we lived in NY and Florida during the time period they are trying to collect for.

I did write them a cease and desist letter and advised that any further attempt to collect a debt over 8 years old that we have no recollection of would result in them being sued and reported to both the Attorney General in NJ and also in Florida and the Federal Trade Commission for violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

We shall see, but they must think people are completely stupid.  The Statute of limitations on Debt collection in Florida is 5 years in NJ it is 6 not 7.  It can stay on your credit report for 7 years if done so when the debt has occurred and not 8 years later.

They are bottom feeders and everyone who has dealings with them trying to collect on debts after the statute of limitations has lapsed should report them to their attorney general and the FTC.
