I was merely checking my savings account the other night when I saw a neegative balance for over 3,000...I called HSBC to find out what was going on and they told me a freeze was placed on my account by Palisades Collections LLC. Having no idea why, they gave me the number and told me to call because they had no other info, and the customer service rep from HSBC seemed to rush me off of the phone.
I then began to do research on Palisades Collections LLC. and came across numerous other rip-off reports regarding them. That's when I knew this may be a problem. I contacted a friend who happens to be a lawyer, though not in this area and he told me to go to the bank and ask them for documentation given to them in order to freeze my account (i received NO paperwork whatsoever from Pressler & Pressler or Palisades...)
I called HSBC corporate and they told me to do the same thing. I went to the bank on saturday only to talk to an extreme idiot, who was an assistant manager (the manager wasnt in) who told me they had no info or documentation, and I needed to call Palisades for info. I went home and called, and I spoke to a paralegal.
Basically what he told me is this: the had served papers to a previous address and as long as SOMEONE is there, thats all that matters (yet they were mysteriously able to find my bank account with my NEW address) The account is for AT&T - which I have NEVER had - and its about 6 years old. The papers were served in Feb of last year. I have had pervious problems with my father opening accounts in my name and have had most removed from my credit report. I told him this may be another instance. Also, in the time that this account was opened, I was away at school. I asked if they have proof it's mine, i.e. a contract signed by me, and he said no. They usually attach paperwork in the file but he said there was none in mine. He said he'd request it but it could take 90-120 days, and there was no guarantee of anything coming back. At this point I am stuck, my savings are still frozen, and I have had to empty out another bank account in fear of them freezing that too...Any help would be great!

EDitor's Suggestions on how to get your money back!
HERE IS WHAT RIP-OFF REPORT SUGGESTS YOU DO:
Go to your bank within 60 days of the charge, or as soon as you know about the charge, don't delay, and tell them that there has been fraudulent activity within your account. Explain that you wish to file a dispute, and demand that they assist you in accordance with Federal Regulation E.
According to the majority of victims interviewed by Rip-off Report, those who immediately called their banks to dispute the charges did not get very far. Many victims got the following responses from their banks: we could not do anything for you or you waited too long; it has been more than 60 days.
If the bank is says that you have waited too long, explain to them how you called their 800 number as soon as the charges were found, and were told by the bank that nothing could be done. Remind the bank that they failed to assist you properly at the 800 #, and instead, provided you with an inadequate explanation of your right to dispute. Tell the bank that it's their fault time has expired, and since they gave you the wrong info to begin with, they will just have to deal with it, take the loss and reverse the charges.
Tell them the truth; this was unauthorized and your account was NOT to be charged! Keep emphasizing how you never authorized anything! Direct them to the hundreds of victims reports that were filed on Rip-off Report.
