Shirley Cherveny (owner of Palm Realty in Port St Lucie, FL) rented a house to us years ago. We paid $1400 per month for 6 years to live there, totalling over $100,000! When we moved out of the city for a job, we found a tenant to move right in, without the owners skipping a beat in rent. Since we'd live there for 6 years, and no maintenance (paint or carpet) had ever been required by the owners, we knew they'd need need to do those 2 things. The house was extremely clean and ready to move in. The carpets were shampooed and walls touched up. Shirley did a walk through with us and said it looked great and even hugged us! Well, next thing you know, we get a notice a couple of weeks later stating that they kept our $1400 deposit to replace the carpets and paint! We fought it as much as we could, but there's not much you can do short of hiring an attorney. Just know going in that if you rent from Palm Realty, you won't see your deposit again.
