Two of us went to PS Mazda to purchase the 2012 Mazda3. The other person (a Dr.) negotiated his contract price, signed the paperwork, then noticed they had put in a higher price than they negotiated. PS MAzda absolutley refused to enter the correct price or cancel the contract.
For me I went throught the test drive, negotiating the terms, it was a done deal until I was walking into the Finance Office and a salesperson said" By the way, this is an "Unwind". I had no idea what an unwind was RED ALERT It is a USED car! The car had over 4000 miles on it! I never saw the "Buyers Guide" indicating it was an "Unwind".
I took the car home, then they started wanting to change all the terms..NOT. I refused and returned the car and had to listen to all the blah blah they didn't do anything wrong.
Apparently the new "philosophy" is send everybody home in a car, and some will stick. (Quote) "that way they won't stop at another dealer on the way home"
I realize that car dealers can be the slimy scum of the earth, but genuinely believed I was prepared for all of their tricks, boy was i wrong!!
I would warn anybody not to do business with this company or prepare to be CHEATED. If you go don't whine about it later becasue they WILL lie to you.

" The other person (a Dr.) negotiated his contract price, signed the paperwork, then noticed they had put in a higher price than they negotiated.
I have never purchased a car that had the original negotiated price on the first contract. The good Dr.'s habit of signing first and reading later is a first time car buyer mistake.
" PS MAzda absolutley refused to enter the correct price or cancel the contract. "
As far as the dealer (and the law) is concerned, the "correct price" IS the price that is entered on the contract.
" The car had over 4000 miles on it! "
This should have been plainly obvious during your test drive. Not sure why it came as a surprise later.
" I realize that car dealers can be the slimy scum of the earth, but genuinely believed I was prepared for all of their tricks, boy was i wrong!! "
I have to agree with you. What you described are the most basic tactics that are common to most car dealers. You were not remotely prepared to deal with a dealer. I strongly suggest that you scour the Internet for information on how to buy a car the right way. Basics like reading before signing and using a checklist on the test drive will go a long way towards keeping yourself out of trouble.

What was the odometer reading when you took the car for the test-drive?
