My 16 year old daughter and her friend decided to try their hand at shop lifting at Dillard’s department store.  Fortunately they were caught and my daughter learned her lesson.  She went to teen court and plead guilty accepting her punishment.  The “friend” has sense been in trouble again.  Fortunately my daughter severed her relationship with this girl and her risky behavior. I later found out that the “friend” has been doing this before, got caught but there were no charges.

A couple weeks after the court date I received a letter from Palmer, Reifler & Associates with a claim against my daughter and a hefty fine.  My daughter has not job, I am a single mother and lost my job.  I have tried calling and I never get an answer or even an email.  I got a new job and got my first paycheck last week.  I was going to make another payment in the following business day.  This weekend I got another letter from the law firm demanding full payment, which has now been doubled.  Once again no answer when I call.  I am forced to choose between gas in my car for work or make this payment.  I would like to add that there was no loss to Dillard’s department store. 

I agree there should be punishment and even a fine.  But not to the parents.  Our judicial system has more compassion than this law firm.  When I explained my new job and dates that were available to be present for any hearing or other pertinent meeting they worked around my schedule best to their ability.  As parents we can’t be with our children 24/7.  They should be the ones to suffer for their mistakes not the parent. 

Once again lawyers are getting money anyway they cannot caring who it affects and the outcome.
