I have a Palm Zire 71 which inside has a thin Molex cable that has become faulty. After reviewing a few forums, have noticed that this is a common thing. The Palm has a digital camera built into it, and to access it you must slide the Palm camera to the open position.

It turns out that if you frequently use the camera the cable is beome frayed. This has happened and I had used PalmOne's online support system. It directed me to submit a support question, which I did. After 72 hours I still did not receive a response in regards to this.

The irony was, I received a survey for the support, but did not receive a response to my question. After researching further on their website, with my Palm being out of warranty it would cost me a substantial amount to have it repaired, leaving me without my needy Palm. I then checked around to see if this cable could be purchased, which I have learned that you are not able to.

The make of this cable is Molex (molex.com). I then went to their website and checked to see if I could purchase the cable directly from them. They forwarded my email to their Palm Account Manager, who then had the person that responded to my email originally, state that they don't know what cable I was talking about, one did not exist or ever did. Funny, considering their logo is on it.

I feel that this is unfair, seeing this Palm cost around $300.00 and to have a faulty cable should be something that Palm should send out free of charge, or at least make it available to replace the faulty cable. Seeing my attempt to go through Molex failed, I then submitted another request for support online (as I have no credit card to call their phone support), but I have yet to hear anything back.

I have since reported this to the BBB and will share my findings through them.
