The auto dealers in Suffolk County Long Island are out of control. On Saturday 1/27 I went to Pape Chevrolet in Huntington considering Trading in My 2000 Dodge Pickup.
I Paid $23,800 for this 9 months ago. They had the nerve to offer me 13,800 for this vechicle. Just as an example Bright Bay Chevrolet offered me $17,500 over the net without seeing this car. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH CAR DEALERS. They should be required first of all to CLEARLY post the cost of All used vechicles on every used car. The consumer should be given a fair price for their trade. The used car market place is a tramatic experience instead of a pleasure. CAN YOU DO SOMETHING FOR ALL CONCERNED????????

#3 Consumer Suggestion
Trade In=Auction Price

It is amazing that people go to a dealer with unrealistic expectations for trade in value. The dealer will give you for a trade-in what it would cost him to buy an identical vehicle at auction. If he gives you more for your vehicle he will tack the additional $$$ on the car you are trading for or will pack the deal with worthless warranties, paint sealer, pin stripes, etc.
The reason that dealers don't mark a price on their used cars is obviously because they want you to come inside and ask what the price is. The price is also negotiable and the bottom line is always the difference between the trade and the new car. Prices, allowances, etc go up and down but the difference remains constant. If one dealer offers you more for your trade than another and you are trading up to the same car then they will pack the new car price. People don't sell cars privately because they are usually upside down and the dealer can pay off their trade and add the money it cost him to the total deal. You will then be WAY upside down and this goes on forever. Buy what you can afford and pay cash for it. It is usually cheaper to buy from a private owner but make sure he has all the records on the car. Some "private owners" are dealers who took a car home to sell.

Point

His point was that he felt he was unfairly treated on a trade-in quote, and was upset about it.

Yeah and your Point?

First off,, you have(had) a Dodge,, what did u think it was worth? Second,,If it was so precious to you,, why would you consider trading it? Obviously you bought garbage off the bat, and you wanted to have a perfect pay off for your Dodge? I hope you purchased that vehicle from the other dealer, and they buried the difference in your payments, and not only are you paying for your newer vehicle,, but also paying for that Dodge as well!
