I started at Parks College in Feb of 2003. I signed up for 3 classes. I had a Pell Grant and two student loans to pay for my tuition. I signed up for the on-line classes and was told by the dean of students that my extra cost of $100 per on-line class would be waved because I was lower income. I seemed to be payed in full. I never received a bill or any notice for any money owed.

I finished those classes and signed up for three more. Again I had a Pell Grant and two student loans. And again I was never billed or notified in the three months of class that I had owed any money. After this classes had ended I had received word that my grandmother was dying. I called the school and let them know I was going to have to take the next 3 to 6 months off to take care of my sick grandmother. They said that would be find and as soon as I could get back to school would be fine. With in the next few months of that phone call I received a bill for over $600.

When I called Parks about the bill I asked them for a break down for what I owed the money for. They could not tell me and they me they would send me something in writing. They never did that but I did start paying them what I could afford each month. $20 here $50 there. The bill finally was sent to a collection agent Alliance One. They sent me a letter and It said I owed $419.00. I called them and made the same request about a bill and got nothing, but phone calls every day two to three times a day. I paid them $200.00 total through payment. Then the bill got sent to Sunrise Credit Services. They sent me a letter with the collection about being over $500 and if I request in writing I could get the original bill. I wrote them a letter and sent the $100 check. I explained to them the same thing I am writing here. They sent me a letter back ( with no Bill) that I need to contact them and make a payment right away because there is no agreement made from the about my payment. What does that mean? Do I call this people to get the same run around I have received for the last 3 years? I mean I don't even know what I am paying for!

Parks College Thornton Colorado

AUTHOR: Barbara - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 26, 2006

I lve about 5 minutes from this school in Thornton, I have been inside several times but I decided to attend Parks in Aurora,as it was closer to my job at the time; also the same as you, I started Oct. 03, had some good teachers but it got to be too much being a single mom and working full time; the same thing happened to me; when I dropped out after having full financial aid, I received a bill for $1000.00, I called the toll free number and they said they would take care of it. A few months later, I took online classes from FMU Online, the same parent company as Parks, Corinthian Colleges, they took my pell grant and tried to claim I owed them for the entire semester. I only went to 3 classes because I had to take my son to college in North Dakota.

They continued to harrass me about these payments, even though my student loans were there, they never touched them. I contacted Sallie Mae and cancelled them because of the way I was treated, Sallie Mae told me that FMU online NEVER even asked for payment other than the Pell grant. They sent me to collection and after several phone calls to Corinthian Colleges main branch which were ignored and numerous BBB complaints, I finally had to threaten them with a lawsuit. I fought and fouhgt with the credit bureau to remove it from my credit report because I didnt owe it. I also filed a complaint with the Federal STudent loan program. Keep fighting this, keep disputing it. Dont give up! All I wanted to do was finish my bachelors degree and I get treated like this? btw this started in 2004, thats how long I've been fighting them. And why has Corinthians Colleges changed Parks name? Got to be all the complaints I would think
