Patrick Beals Thumbtack sloppy work, unprepared, over-priced, incompetent, destructive Folsom California

This is so new to me - hopefully this short synopsis will be beneficial for others needing home repair/assistance projects:

My experience with Mr. Patrick Beals (via Thumbtack) has been highly unsatisfactory and costly. 

I contacted the company "Thumbtack" who provides independent service providers for handyman services.  On September 11, 2103, I was contacted by "Patrick Beals" whom I subsequently hired to tile and grout a 3x5' area, install sink/toilet lines, set a toilet and install vertical blinds. 

The next day, Mr. Beals arrived at my house, (previously unbeknownst to me), with his assistant (i.e. brother - another story).  Mr. Beals appeared clueless as to what he was being hired to do.  (This, after talking with him and providing the information via email through his contact, "Thumbtack.")  He told me he didn't know I was asking to have tile set and it was pretty obvious to me as he arrived without the necessary supplies to complete the project (i.e., tile saw, bucket, grout spreader, markers, etc.).  Fortunately, I had and provided what personal supplies I had and Mr. Beals "winged" the rest.  I asked if he had ever done tile before and he reassured me that he had.   He asked for, and I paid him $200 of the $400 we agreed upon for the entire project.  Before he left,  I mentioned to him that the tiles were gaping from the shower stall and he told me I needed to find some "tile edging" and additional mortar so he could mask the imperfections. 

The next day, I notified both Mr. Beals and "Thumbtack" that I was not at all happy about the way the tile was turning out and that I wanted it removed.  The idea of piece-milling along a shower pan and filling it in with unmatched edging, which was more costly than the original tile, was unacceptable.  The basics of tile, would in my limited knowledge, necessitate some measuring.   Also, the tile wasn't even level - and he set a broken tile, made high cuts in the doorjamb, mortar coming through the tile pieces, etc.  - obviously there was no thought or planning to his scheme.  Furthermore, they had mixed all of the mastic and left it outside to dry in my bucket along with my spreader rendering it useless. 

Subsequently, on several occasions, I attempted to get Mr. Beals to come out and rip out, or at least, finish piece-milling the project, but to no avail.   Today (almost three weeks later),  I requested Mr. Beals reimburse me $500:  my $200 deposit, $250 to have the tile ripped out and $50 for supplies.  He is not responding to my emails or text messages.   Still have a ripped out bathroom with crappy work that needs to be rectified.
