I do have a Paypal account but numerous email addresses. One I just created the other day, and got an email stating my Paypal account was in bad standing or something, and I needed to take action immediately to fix it. Well, for one, I could care less, as I don't even use the acccount. Secondly, as I said, the email address this came to was BRAND NEW.

Submitting this report because the email really did look like it was from Paypal, and if I actually used that account, and it had been on my actual email attached to it, probably would've been concerned.

Another very "curious" email I received awhile back was purportedly from AOL and was very urgently needing me to update my account billing information. I use my husband's debit card for it, so forwarded the email to him. He was very suspicious of it, and when I looked at it again, I couldn't believe I fell for it. The weirdest thing was that while it did come to my master account name, the email address that the email was SENT TO WASN'T MY SCREEN NAME! I cannot figure out how I got the email, at my email address, when it wasn't addressed to my email account! THAT freaks me out lololol.

Heed the warnings, folks, NEVER click on a link in an email for any kind of sensitive account. Always access the site yourself.

Paypal and Ebay will not ever ask you for personal information in an email. If you get an email asking your to change your information, update your account, etc then more than likely it's fake. If you click on the link and your don't see an actual paypal or ebay URL in the top most of the time it will show an IP address like 93.445.43 of that nature you know that they are phishing for data. Dont' do it.

Also if you get a chance install Microsoft Internet explorer 7.0. It just came out and has a "phishing" filter in the browser to help with these kind of issues. Good luck and watch your emails. I have had over 20 fake emails from places like this in the past year.

If there ever is an 800 number included in these emails DO NOT CALL THAT NUMBER. These worthless subhuman slime are getting numbers and their friends answer "Paypal" or whatever Customer Service.

Call 800 Directory Assistance to get the correct number. 800-555-1212.

And another thing if you ever get a thing to mail something somewhere and think it's legitimate because it's a street address DO NOT FALL FOR THAT. These scam artists get addresses at places like Mailboxes etc.

Call 411 and ask them to do a check on the address. If it doesn't come up ITS NOT LEGITIMATE. Or it will come up with a Mailboxes etc.

This was not an actual paypal email, but rather spam designed to get you to click on a link to go to their site rather than the actual REAL paypal site. When you enter your info to "contest this charge" they now have access to your account and your money.

There is a scam going around attempting to get your pay-pal information. I have received 3 emails supposedly from paypal saying it is mandatory I click on the link and update my information. These are just links to phishing sites. Perhaps this happened to you? Word of warning - never go to a site (especially financial) by clicking on an email link, the site address looks ok but it may be a scam.

Your PayPal account has not been charged.

There is undoubtably a link in the message to click to "cancel the transaction." DON'T CLICK IT. It does not go to the real PayPal site. The scammers who sent the email also set up a phony site to get your PayPal username and password. Then they will go to PayPal and log in as you to steal your money.
