We were invited, by mail, to attend a travel seminar with an invitation that stated "Two complementary AA flights" just for attending.  We were told that this seminar would show us how they could save us a LOT of money and time by joining them. First of all the flights had a "service charge" associated with them. So it was not complementary.

We went because we spend quite a bit of time on the Internet comparing sites and costs to where we want to travel.  We thought it would be great if we had one place to contact for our travel needs.  We went to the meeting and were told that Island Trader Vacations by Travel Services was one stop shopping for travel.  You paid a joining fee of @ $9000 and then $199 per year.  The join-up fee was dropped to @$6000.  They stated that all of the middlemen were cut out so you received the best possible rate for travel, anywhere, anytime.  We thought that was a great idea and signed up.  In the contract it stated that we only had three days to disenroll BUT it took 2 to 3 weeks to get our access code to compare prices.  Once we got our access codes we called to set up a trip to Cancun to a resort we had been too a number of times and pretty much knew what that total trip cost.  The quote from Island Traders was more than we normally pay.  At this time, we went onto the Internet and checked our usual sites such as Expedia.  We found that the Expedia price for the same resort and travel times was much less than through the Islander Trader group that we had just paid a LOT of money to join.  We called the Payless-Vacation people that put on the seminar and told them we wanted to disenroll.  They said we had passed the time for disenrolling.  I placed the enrollment fee on my Discover Card and tried to cancel this through them but that was to avail. Finally, I had my attorney contact them.  They basically said that we had signed a valid contract and if we did not like it we could sue them.
