I recently attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences located in Gettysburg Pa after basically being sold on the whole program by Paul Chiacchierini. I was mislet I would be able to get a job as an entry level job as an engineer at a top production company after attending their program. Needless to say after graduation I started applying for employment at different companies only to hear time and time again that my training was insufficient. I really cant believe I wasted over $12,000 taking these classes thinking it would lead to a high paying job in the field I finally did get a job but its at the local movie theater paying $7.00 per hour not excatly what I had in mind, when I spoke with Paul Chiacchierini the director he could not provide any proof of any other students landing lucrative jobs from the training they provide. I plan on speaking with an attorney and most likely filing suit to get my money back. My advice for any students considering going there is to go to NY, LA or a larger market where you can not only benefit from better training or up to date equipment but also learn from people who are actually working in the business.

Even they replaced the console last year, the problem console (Oram Tridnet) is true. If I were Paul, I wouldn't be so high and mighty considering he had a pothead who came to work stoned, and went Jeckyl and Hyde on students for six years. And he canceled a bunch of classes in 2012 (probably too hung over to teach).

What you read at the top of this page was pretty correct. Paul will try to convince you after attending his "Academy", that you will find entry level work in the audio field. YOU WON'T. Even getting your degree from them is a battle.

I attended this school last year. Most of the time I spent there, we were working around a broken board. Mostly broken from a power supply that had coffee spilled on it half a dozen times by the instructor. Witnessing this and the panicky freakout was pretty hilarious though. Not 15 thousand dollars hilarious though.

You are honestly better off buying yourself a macbook pro and taking protools classes at a local music instrument store. The only thing you will really have gained is a memory of key commands, which you can learn from a protools book.

You get sold on the idea that you learn all these mic techniques and placement, live sound recording and the idea of what really goes on in a studio. YOU WON'T. I can't express that enough. Just do yourself a favor and avoid this scam. There are way better alternative schools or ways about getting into the audio field than this.

I am sorry to hear you have not taken advantage of the training you received here at the Academy.  I would be happy to meet with you as soon as possible to give you a refresher on Course 5: Business Communications.  If you truly are a graduate of the program, then I am sure you recall the information on how to navigate through the audio industry to find employment.  I am curious how many companies you have contacted and how many hours you committed to contacting potential employers before filing this report?

We would like to see you employed as well.  Therefore I am very interested in meeting you and helping you find a job in audio.  Please call me at 717-334-4487.  I look forward to hearing from you.  Bill Chenaille

My name is Paul Chiacchierini. I am a Vice President of the parent company that owns the Pennsylvania Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (not the school Director). I do not give entrance interviews as was stated in the complaint. I invite anyone to investigate our company with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We are a company in good standing with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, a member of the Gettysburg Adams Chamber of Commerce, and the only Private Licensed School for recording & audio techonlogy in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The provisions set by our licensure with Pennsylvania prohibit us from "Ripping anybody off" by a series of painstaking reports that have to be filed each physcal quarter. Our school must maintain a 65% placement rate for graduates and we currently hold an 80% job placement. In addition, we carry a 97% graduation rate. Pennsylvania has the toughest regulations for licensed trade schools out of any state of the 50, and we have maintained a spotless record for our first 2 years of operation. No person that attended our school could have written this letter, since we require a 12th grade reading level by giving a Wonderlic Basic Skills exam (required by the Commonwealth) before the student is admitted. The author of this complaint did not care enough about it to check their facts nor their spelling. Please do more than just consult this website before considering a school of any kind for your education.
