I signed up on www.peoplelookup.com to research a phone number I was suspicious about. I paid for a reverse phone number look up. When I received the report, I was surprised by the vague information. The report listed only a first name. I decided to test the system by requesting a report for my own phone number. This report came back again with a first name only and state location (which was not accurate).
The People lookup fees and refund policy states all purchases are final with no refunds. I decided to not fight the inaccurate information they provided because I paid $4.95 for each report. I figured attempting to dispute $9.90 was not worth my time. Although, this experience proved to me that www.peoplelookup.com is as reliable as using a magic 8 ball.
Two months later I noticed four transactions on my bank account that were not familiar. The transactions were from Web sites I have never visited:
Unauthorized transactions by PeopleLookup.com also known as Intelius
DRI*ELEMENTS.com for $29.95
PMIDENTITY.COM-V for $19.95
24PROTECTPLUS-V for $14.95 once in January and once in February (monthly fee)
The www.peoplelookup.com FAQ page claims there is NO charge for setting up a PeopleLookup account, nor are you charged on a monthly or recurring basis. The only time you will be charge by PeopleLookup is when you confirm a charge to your credit card by making a purchase on the PeopleLookup website and walking through the three step confirmation checkout page.
I contacted customer service to find out why I have been charged fees from random sites I have never visited. The representative was very short and quick with me. She went on to explain that upon signing up I received a 7 day trial and after the 7 days Intelius charged me a monthly fee of $14.95. I then asked about the fee from PM Identity.com for $19.95. She said it is an identity theft service. I still have not found out what DRI Elements.com is or why I have been charged $29.95.
In conclusion, I paid $89.70 for reports with random first names and gave PeopleLookup.com the opportunity to take advantage of my bank account information by passing it to other companies associated Intelius.
Save yourself the headache, time, and money! Dont EVER purchase a reverse phone lookup report or any report from www.peoplelookup.com.
This company is very unprofessional and reeks of fraud!

Hi, Ann.... I called Intelius this AM, 6 Feb '08

I talked to a woman (in customer service) and after I gave her my order number and confirmed who I was, I then asked if I had been signed up for any other services similar to the services for which you had been signed up.
The answer was "No" because I had selected the "Basic" service....
One CAN opt for the "Club Intelius Membership" and get a 10% discount on all reports etc. that one orders, but I skipped this because the property report I had ordered was $16 and I did not think $1.60 was worth my spending the time to understand the "Club Intelius Membership" option.
You may have selected the "Club Intelius Membership" option, and that might be why you were signed up for those extra services. I don't know, but I would suggest that everyone avoid the "Club Intelius Membership" option unless they have specific reasons to elect it.
I will keep an eye on my statements to be sure I understand my situation correctly.
Maybe I will simply avoid sites and products with "Terms & Conditions" (T&C) printed in ALL CAPS. There is NO reason that T&C cannot be printed properly. The Intelius "Site T&C" are neatly organised and printed in a format that is easy to read. Maybe you read these and concluded all was well.

Thanx for the heads-up, ANN. Those terms of service printed IN ALL CAPS ARE HARD TO READ

I did plow down thru their terms of service, which were mind-nunmbingly hard to read. It sounds like the FAQ represents the Large Print which "gives" and the ToC provides the small print which springs the traps on you.
I used these people for a property report mid Jan 08. I was a bit underwhelmed.
I will follow up tomorrow and I will also call my CC people.
I have the "Basic" membership status but I won't be surprised that I have the same issues as you.
