Performance Coating-Penofin Performance Coatings,Inc-Penofin Product does not perform Ripoff Ukiah California

I live in Vancouver ,British Columbia Canada and I am a deck builder. Last year I built a 1200 sq.ft ,western red cedar deck for one of my clients. This client wanted a showcase peice that he could use for entertaining with his business. The client wanted to use the best products available on his 3 tiered showcase cedar deck. The lumber conpany where I purchased the cedar had a product called Penofin, which they touted as the best product there is and the pricetag of $80.00 per galloon gave the impression that this was the Mercedes-Benz of deck coatings. I purchased about $500.00 worth of Penofin.

Penofin is made from Brazilian Rosewood oil and the product we used was the red can deck stain. This product smells like hell and can combust quite easily if you are not careful.

The application for Penofin is to apply and wait 30 minutes then wipe it off, which I followed very closely. Wiping off half the stain you have applied seemed a total waste of this very expensive product. The result of applying Penofin initially looked quite good and the client was very pleased with his new showcase deck. A few weeks later I visited the deck again and it still looked good but was starting to look a bit dull.

I built the deck in June of last year and by Christmas time I got a call from the client to tell me the deck was starting to turn black on the surface and was not looking to good. I finally got out to see the deck in the spring and was horrified at what was once o beautiful peice of work was a sorry,sickly,mess. The clent was very displeased and so was I.

I then set up a meeting with the supplier of this product (there are not many in Canada and I can see why) . I gave the supplier before and after pictures and their so called "Penofin Pro" said he had never seen any thing like this before and that they had never had a complaint for their amazing Penofin. Total BS. The supplier sent the photo's off to "THE PENOFIN PERFORMANCE LAB", which is nothing more than a complaints department staffed by a woman called "Betty" , who sounded like some trade show rep that just blew people off with the same old story all of which was also pure BS. In the end Penofin agreed to supply me with the stipper, cleaner and brightener to get this crap off the deck and get it back to square one. There is no compensation for my time and effort to do all this which will take probably a good week to perform competely. The Penofin people also offered to supply me with a new batch of their wonderful crap as if I would repeat the saqme mistake again. I am at the moment trying to get the money I spent on the Penofin back from the supplier and then find a proper product that will give this clent his deck back.

In the end all I can say is I know there are alot of people out there who have had problems with this Penofin crap and if anyone is looking at this garbage I suggest that you stay very far away from it. And to add to this, the product if it did work, is only good for a year, a total ripoff. Avoid Penofin at all cost.
