im so sorry about your bunny. it must have broken your heart. it sounds like you did all you could for it.

i was in pet land once and there was this puppy and it started having seizures. they didnt seem too surprised when i brought this to their attention. they didnt seem to care at all. poor puppy

Well, the "literature" and "research" out there pretty much ALL state that it is not a good idea to buy a bunny (or any animal) from a pet store. But you did so anyway. Just because you bought things and researched things does NOT mean that you are an ideal pet owner. It is how you carry out your ACTIONS that matters.

Of course I had a vet already picked out, and that's the only emergency vet out where I live. Why would I be kidding about the maple syrup? Listen, I'm not a veterinarian, but he was, and I followed his orders. It was the only chance I had at saving Marley. I knew in my heart that it was the intestinal bug once he mention that as an alternative simply because he was laying in a cage of diarrhea. But, I had to give it my best shot. Are you a veterinarian? No. So who really gives a *&*& what you've heard of? You didn't go to college for that.

This was the first pet I owned while living on my own. You guys can criticize and pick at me all you want. The point of the matter is that I did my absolute best to take care of Marley. I bought literature and researched bunnies before I even made the decision to buy one. I had a vet picked out, bought his food from the farmer's market rather than a pet store, I did everything I could. I followed the vet's orders at the last minute to try and keep him alive, and the only point of this whole report was to warn future pet owners of the way this store handles its animals.

I called the manager after the incident took place, and they didn't even apologize. They just said they'd have a vet come out and check the other bunnies for the same thing. But, now that I see that they have a complete idiot like this Kristina girl working there, I'm going to look further into this and see who I can get to go out there. Because I honestly doubt they called a vet after it happened.

I'm done writing because every day I come back to some new response and it just makes me upset all over again. You have no idea what I went through that night. Maybe I'm just sensitive and have a heart thats way too big, but I loved Marley so much even though I didn't have him that long. I'm sick of your rebuttals and insults. I know one thing I definitely got out of this, and that's that I will never, EVER buy an animal from a pet store again.

I would suggest the next time you decide to purchase a rabbit BEFORE you purchase the rabbit, find a rabbit savvy vet. You can find one near you by checking the House Rabbit Society's website. THEN find an emergency clinic which deals with rabbits in the event your vet is not avaible OR do what the rest of us do...learn as much as possible about rabbits and illnesses so that if you do have to go to a regular vet, you will know what to do and what not to do. I have NEVER heard of any rabbit vet recommending maple syrup for an ill rabbit. If you did not read up on rabbits before your purchase you may not even have been feeding him properly. A rabbit is an EXOTIC. Learn before you buy. I stand up for no pet store who sells any companion animals. They are in it for the money and those cute little bunnies make them big buck (not on the bunnies,on all of the junk they sell you to take care of the bunny). There are thousands of rabbits dumped yearly and euthanized in shelters or dumped outside to fend for themselves. Adopt a bunny and save a life, don't keep pet stores who sell companion animals in business.

I would have absolutely loved to have rushed him to the vet, and would have without a doubt. I get home at 11PM from working all day, to find Marley laying on his face.. not being able to move. Since it was so late and I figured vets would be closed, I called around. I got ahold of a late-night emergency vet. When talking to the veterinarian, he said it was a good thing I called first since driving Marley to the vet would've been too much trauma and would've killed him on the spot.

He said the symptoms were one of two things, something similar to diabetic shock, or the intestinal virus. His recommendations were feeding Marley some maple syrup to get his sugar levels back up, and putting him in a box with a milk jug filled with hot water to keep him warm.

So there I was trying to pry his mouth open just enough to get some syrup in him. He ate enough, which was a tablespoon. I started to hear wimpering coming from the box, and went to find him seizuring and running in place. I call the vet back to see what was going on, whether hopeful or bad news... and they said he would pass away any minute. I couldn't stand the thought of him dying in a box, so I picked him up and held him. He seizured some more, let out the saddest wimpers, and within a minute died in my arms.

I took him to the same vet the next day to have him examined. Tests came back, and yes, it was an intestinal thing. I guess the fact that he was laying in a cage FULL of diarrhea was just proof enough.

As for the other articles written, unfortunately I bought him BEFORE I had read the article.

I'm so sick of this Kristina girl trying to defend Pet Land. You are not only heartless, but disgusting. Unlike your store, I took wonderful care of my pet. The vet even said on the phone when I called that night that he's heard of this happenening quite a few times not only with your store, but with Jack's Aquarium.

Stop trying to defend this issue.. accept the fact that your facility will hopefully be shut down within the next year.

If you did not take it to a vet and find out exactly what the rabbit died from, you have done an injustice to the other rabbits in that store. Were the rabbits being fed properly? How old were the rabbits they were selling? Domestic rabbits can carry diseases that are contagious to other rabbits (and sometimes other animals) around them. If you believe the rabbits are not properly being cared for, contact the Humane Society in your area and find out if the pet store can be investigated.

I am confused. You walk into a pet store where the animals SUPPOSEDLY are so badly neglected that you can't stand it, and you decide, hmmm maybe it would be a good idea to buy an animal from here!

Did you rush Marley to the vet? Doesnt sound like it. Sounds like just simply stoodd by, watching him die. Do you know for sure that it is the pet store's fault that he had "an intestinal thingy", or is this something he could have gotten at your house? You shouldn't just go around flinging accusations when you did nothing further to help the situation, except tossing out blame on everyone but you.

Don't make yourself out to be a hero. You aren't one. If you were dissatisfied with the conditions of the store, I would hope you would do something OTHER than hand them you money and skip off with a bunny.
