P.F. Chang's in Roseville is prjudiced against families. Tried to walk up and make a reservation... people in front of me were quoted 20 minute wait time. They quoted me 90 minutes.

I asked to speak to a manager. Arrogant jerk wanted to know why I did not make an advanced reservation. Kept giving me the runaround... oh 45 minutes... no 90 minuets... but we'll need another 20 minutes as a "buffer". No kids menus or even crayons.

Clearly, they do not want to waste time with families.
Fine... if they don't want my familiy's money, they won't get my business money either. We ended up going to (name deleted- see link below)... better food, service and they like kids. These jerks think this is San Francisco... not Placer County.

P.F. Chang's Is a Very Pricey Place

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 12, 2006

First of all, this sounds like another YUPPIE problem... or NOT.

It is entirely possible that you all are loving, considerate parents who want to do the best thing for their children by introducing them to all of the cultures that make up contemporary America.

Now, we cut to the chase.

The reason that the restaurants cater to the bar set and the couples is because, quite frankly, the extremely high markup on the alcoholic beverages is one of their main sources of revenue! The guy or lady who is treating the other person to a meal is hoping to impress them and thus orders the higher priced items on the menu --more profit!

I NEVER saw P.F. Chang's as being a family place, anyway, unless you have an EXTREMELY wealthy family!

It does NOT matter if your children were Princes and Princesses, age-appropiateness comes to mind and P.F. Chang's just is NOT a child-friendly place! Period. Repeat ad infinitum!

From the sounds of it, if you don't have a small army of children, you should have been treated better than you were. I would have to ask about the conduct of the children, too. Again, age-appropiateness...

Your children were probably quiet and extremely well-mannered but some restaurant people are used to the little hellions who go running into the kitchen, deliberately trip the waitpeople, engage in food fights, annoy the hell out of other patrons, talking loud about things best undiscussed by polite company in a public place. I have had a beautiful meal absolutely RUINED by children like that, including one young man who put his hand in my plate of food, ate what he had taken then pushed the plate onto the floor! The management replaced my order for free and the parents paid for it but the mood of the evening was ruined for me.

Imagine a child seeing drunks at a bar or couples playing footsie or making out! I wouldn't want MY child to see that until they were about 18 or so!

Whenever I see minor children come into a restaurant, I cringe and I deliberately seek out restaurants that do not appeal to families!

You are to be admired for trying to teach your children about Chinese cuisine and cultural diversity. It can be a wonderful educational experience.

P.F. Chang is a VERY pricey place too. I am wondering if you couldn't have taken them to a smaller place where the owners are also the management and they could have made a fuss over them and taught them how to eat with chopsticks and answered their questions about Chinese cuisine and perhaps some customs.

To pay the kind of money you had to pay for the P.F. Chang EXPERIENCE with children is OUTRAGEOUS! They should gold-plate each and every grain of rice for what they charge in there!

In such a pricey place, it's NOT the kind of place where they have kid menus and crayons! It is the Chinese version of Haute Cuisine ( look it up) where people "dress for dinner"... These kinds of places are NOT child-friendly nor were they designed to be. You will paying full price for their meals. It's NOT Ronald McDonald's kind of place or Chuck E. Cheese.

I think it was somewhat inappropiate to expect P.F. CHang's to be anything other than what they were! But, then again, you could have called ahead and found out if they were "Child friendly" or not... Or looked up restaurant reviews on the Internet to find out just who their target audience is...

I have not gone to P.F.Chang's for that very reason and I DO NOT have ANY children! It is too expensive just for me, by myself and I make rather good money.

Not when I can go south in my town and get something at a smaller, more friendly Chinese restaurant with very reasonable prices and get almost the same items, made the way I like them, with LESS BAR ( they do NOT serve alcohol) and MORE delicious food.

The way you were treated was odious but there are just some places children should not be and a place designed for ALCOHOL DRINKING PEOPLE ( aka, possible drunks on view which are scary to childen) and COUPLES ( where kissing and other things might take place in front of young, impressionable children that stops just short of public lewdness --especially with alcohol in such abundant supply!) is NOT age-appropiate unless your youngest child is about 16 years old or such, too old for kids' menus and crayons.

PF Chang's is OK for kids

AUTHOR: Tana - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 16, 2005

We have six children (oldest is 12) and have had no difficulty eating at PF Changs. Crayons were provided for the young kids, but certainly don't expect a "kids' menu" at a place like this. If we wanted such a thing, we'd go to Applebees. Our kids love foods from all over the globe (though I admit PF Chang's is less-than-authentic Chinese) and thus don't need to be placated with chicken strips and fries.

Out of courtesy, we try to time our dinners at places like PF Chang's a bit earlier in the evening (around 5 or so) but if your children are well-behaved and enjoy the food offered on the regular menu, you shouldn't have any trouble with PF Changs. I agree with a previous poster that perhaps others were seated before you because they were smaller groups. When all eight of us go to a restaurant to eat, we're rarely seated right away; it's clearly not prejudice, but circumstantial. I always figured when we go to a restaurant, the staff must see dollar signs in our large group. ;o)

If the kids are respectful and you tip well, you should be fine!

seems you are a bit unclear!

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 25, 2005

It seems you are a bit unclear about many issues here. First, did it ever occur to you that the couple who walked in AFTER you and your brood of kids were seated first because a table for 2 was available first? Perhaps a table big enough for the number in your party was not available until later.
Secondly, PF Chang's is not considered a "family restaurant." They pride themselves on being a more upscale eatery, offering a nice alternative for couples and other adults who would like to eat out without having to deal with rude people's kids ruining their dining experience. For this reason, they do not have "crayons for the kids" or kids menus.
From your story, it sounds to me like you have little experience dining at restaurants such as PF Changs. Perhaps an actual "family restaurant" would suit you better. You know, the places that greet your kids with a balloon, a greasy booster seat, cheap little kids cups that they can take home with them ... places where your kids can throw a fit, toss their food all over the floor, grind it in with their shoe, all with no discipline required from you, because they fit in just fine with the general ambience of this "family restaurant."
You'd be doing PF Chang's a favor if you never go there again.

I like PF Chang's.

AUTHOR: Patrick - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 25, 2005

Martin,

Although I have never visited the PF Chang's in Roseville, I have been to the one in Chandler, AZ twice. Both times we were with several family members, with young children, and no bar tab (we do not drink). Both times were during the busy time of the day.

We have never experienced the type of situation you've described here. Our child (2 years old) was provided with crayons and paper, and our wait times were not any longer than everyone else.

We don't go often as I feel the food is over-priced, but the lettuce wraps are to die for, so we go about every 6 months or so.

I would suggest contacting the Corporate Office. You can send them an email directly from their web page (www.pfchangs.com).

Good luck.
