I am an ex-employee of P.G. Shocks and my only goal in writing this report is to keep potential customers and employees from entering into any contract with Greg Shocklee. His whole business is based on being dishonest with people to get them to sign contracts. The company motto should be "we over-promise and under-deliver!
If you are considering buying an ad, there are several things that you are being mislead about:
1. The number of envelopes, folders, or bookcovers the school will be receiving. Greg will send as few as he can get away with to maximize his profit margin.
2. The materials will be used by all the students in the school. How the materials will be used is not addressed with the school or followed up on. Quite frankly, Greg doesn't care.
3. When the school will receive the materials. You will be told that the materials are for the next two semesters and will be delivered in 8-10 weeks. In most cases, the school will receive the materials in 4-5 months when Greg has earned enough interest off your hard earned money to pay for the printing costs. In many cases, the principal has forgot they were coming by this time and they are not used at all.
4. Each business is on an individual basis. He will print all the ads that he collects money for. This is just another deception to get you to write a check immediately.
5. You will be sent a few copies so you can see how everything turned out. I never spoke to a merchant that said they had received anything. Most complained that they hadn't.
6. There was a PTO/PTA meeting where your business was selected by the school. Greg actually trains reps to lie to merchants about this. It is in the training manual!
If you are considering working for P.G. Shocks, there are several things you are being mislead about:
1. Greg will tell you that his employees stay with him for a long time. If you make the mistake of signing on, you will quickly learn that the average tenure of a P.G. Shocks employee is a matter of months. You learn very quickly not to trust anything that Greg says.
2. The compensation structure. Greg will give you a sheet outlining how the average first year employee makes around $70,000 which is completely false. He gives you this to look at while considering accepting the job. There is no mention that there is a minimum amount that has to be collected to be paid at all ($1500 on bookcovers - $2000 on folders to get 15%) and that you have to reach $2500 on folders to be paid 25%. It also doesn't mention that the only money that counts towards your bonuses is the schools where you bring in the $2000-$2500.
Keep in mind that he will be sending you to communities where his deceptive business practices have decreased your chances of making the minimum significantly.
When he is trying to get you to make the mistake of signing the contract (please don't!) without reading it thoroughly, he will tell you many things that aren't true. One of which is that the only way you won't be paid is if there is not enough money collected to produce the materials and the money will be sent back to the customers. In reality, if you end up with $1400 on bookcovers/envelopes or $1900 on folders, he will still produce them at a significant profit and refuse to pay you a dime.
Oh, and the schools where he only collects a few hundred? He is not sending any money back to anyone any time soon. He will hold on to the customers money without producing anything. He will try to send another poor representative back to the town without telling them about the businesses already solicited in hopes that he won't have to pay them either.
Greg's calculator will "malfunction" every payday in his favor and you will have to keep close tabs to keep him from screwing you too badly. Have no doubt...in the end, he will screw you little by little.
I learned all this by working for P.G. Shocks and talking with several other employees (internal and external) who left for similar reasons. We were all successful at what we did and left on our own for the obvious reasons stated above.
All in all, it is a pretty clever, no risk scam if you have no conscience or moral compass.

I have been working for P.G. Shocks for over a year now, and very happy to be a part of such a great team! Greg puts everything in writing and does not try to mislead the sales reps, schools or merchants. I also make it a point to personally get samples to the merchants asap. P.G. Shocks also has an A+ rating with the BBB.
Sincerely,
Nancy Brewer
