According to the Charlotte, NC Better Business Bureau, Placesettings.com is owned by Robert J. Morossy and has two employees. I am convinced that monkeys on crack cocaine would treat customers better than they do.
I experienced the same treatment as all the other victims posting here: Placesettings charged my credit card immediately (to the tune of over $1,400 in my case) and that's the last I heard from them. No "order confirmation" e-mail. No "estimated date of delivery." Nothing. When I got fed up and cancelled my order - you guessed it - NO refund to my credit card account!
It is a waste of time to phone or e-mail them. Phone calls are never returned. E-mail responses are just a royal run-around.
The ONLY thing that appears to motivate them to quit scamming people is complaints to the Charlotte BBB, which named them as one of the area's six WORST businesses. In 2006 the Charlotte Observer wrote an expose of their unacceptable business practices.
Hopefully your credit card company can get your money back for you, but either way, I urge you to file a complaint with the Charlotte BBB. They will help you if you need it, and you'll be helping the next poor soul that gets suckered by Placesettings.

Don't be fooled by Placesettings' rebuttal. They did not issue a credit to me. I had to notify my credit card company (Wells Fargo) of fraud. They issued a "provisional credit" to me in the full amount, pending investigation. If Placesettings does nothing to protest Wells Fargo getting my money back for me, the provisional credit becomes a real credit.
This seems to be Placesettings' standard mode of operation: Take a customer's money and keep it, unless someone with clout (a credit card company or the local BBB) wrangles it away from them.
