Approximately 4 (four) days ago I received a letter from Planet Toyota of a Buy-Back plan. This was a limited time event, set for 3 (three) days, which told of special pre-authorized buy-back pricing as well as incentives and employee pricing.
I had recently started looking for a truck. I currently have a Carolla XRS, which was purchased for better fuel economy, Since I now have a company vehicle gas is not an issue. I went to Planet Toyota with the letter, as instructed in the letter, and started looking at trucks. Now, I knew and told my salesman that I was upside down on my trade, and that I had an idea of what I needed to do.
So, he started with my trade in price, which was $800 to $1000 less than previously quoted by other dealerships (special buy-back pricing strike one). Then he started working with the new vehicle sticker price, notice I said sticker price, no incentives (employee pricing or factory incentives strike two). The combination of which was supposed to save me a significant amount of money (strike three -- I'm outta here). Knowing very well of my situation, I knew going in that, I would have to refinance a certain amount of money, the buy-back program sure reads as if it was going to lessen the blow.

1. There are no miricles in car buying. But your post indicates that you knew that.
2. Maybe the salesman thought you were a hot-at-any-costs payment buyer because you were upside down and looking to go into even more debt.
I have an F150 4X4 but it sees limited use pulling the boat at the beginning & end of the season plus a few hauling jobs for stuff the car cannot [or should not] carry. But this F150 was free so my costs are modest. I would rent, I think, instead of buying a NEW F150 4X4 for my needs. Your real need for a truck may be no greater than mine.
