Think you are getting brand-name clothes for a cheap price? Think again! I was shopping at this particular store, and I decided to purchase a pair of shoes. No longer than a half an hour later, I decided to return them.
Upon my arrival at the store, I was informed that customers cannot return shoes, along with certain other items. Nowhere in the store or on my reciept was this policy indicated. I was also not informed of this policy by any employees, especially the employee who had checked out my items earlier that day.
Due to my inability to return the shoes, I offered to sell the shoes back to the store, like many other customers do on a daily basis. While the employee and I both came to an agreement that I would not recieve a full refund for the shoes, I still expected to get a portion of my money back.
After several minutes of deliberation among the employees, I was offered $4.30 for the shoes. I had purchased the shoes for $15.00 earlier that day. I was appalled that the store would attempt to make a $10.70 profit off of a pair of used shoes!
After being told I would not recieve any more money for the shoes, I decided to keep them. However, I was able to experience firsthand how this company runs its business. I can see now that the clothes customers bring in are virtually worthless to the store, but they use the brand names to their advantage to sell the clothes at a "cheaper" price than what they would normally cost.
I complained to the store, and I will never buy or sell anything to any Platos Closet stores ever again!
Due to the unethical practices that keep this business running, I suggest to everyone not to sell their clothes to Platos Closet. You are not getting as good of a deal as you think you are!

I am NOT the owner of the company as was erroneously displayed in my last posting. I checked 'consumer comment' but sometimes these computer glitches occur. I so hope that I have not confused anyone from Florida :-)

Well, it would figure you would be from Florida, the embarassment of the your country!
I did not present my posting as factual, I was giving an opinion based on my own feelings/thoughts/experiences. O.PI.N.I.O.N.
Please try to find a responsible, competent adult to explain to you what an OPINION is. And, get use to the word, because everyone has one.

Thank you, FloridaNative, for the compliment about my "one good point" in my post.
As for my lack of business knowledge, I have a full understanding of how expensive and competitive the business world is, due to the fact that I have a succesfull business running out of my own home. I also understand all of the technical business terms you incorporated throughout your rebuttal in an attempt to show your own knowledge of businesses. I am not naive or unrealistic. I am a dissatisfied consumer, and I have the right to share my experiences.
Perhaps next time you write a rebuttal, you should consider the situation, rather than blaming the person.

You have unrealistic expectations

You made one good point in your post - there ought to be a sign that all sales are final. Other than that, your post shows that you understand very little about business overhead. To have an actual brick and mortar store involves considerable overhead for the owner: insurance, rent, employee wages, electric, advertising etc. These expenses are ongoing, some are fixed expenses and some are variable. The store needs revenue to stay operational. For you to expect a 100% after purchase of a used item purchased at a discount is unrealistic. There are people that buy, use and return their items (not ethical at all).
If you are looking for 100% refund on items you purchase, then go to a store online or in person that offers that refund policy and pay retail price for the item. There is a cost for every decision.
I understand that sometimes you make a purchase that was in haste, but that decision was yours and not the store from which you purchased the item. Learn to pace yourself and puchase items thoughtfully and you won't have the issue with refunds at this store or any other store.
As to the previous rebuttal - writing about rumors and calling them facts is faulty logic. Learn about running a business and business expenses before you discuss "fair" in an open forum.

I have not been to one of these stores, but I have been told enough and read enough bad things about them to know I would not give them any business. Amongst the things I have heard about them: very poor customer service, people taking in clothes and shoes, being told to leave them and then returning later and being given their merchandise back as being unsaleable, yet items are missing, given ridiculous exchange rates on their items (yes, the business needs to make profit, but giving a customer $2 on something that the store will turn around and sell for $28 is not fair). I have also been told they often will sell clothing for MORE THAN what it would cost brand-new and at the original retail store.
