PMIDENTITY.com Misrepresentation Scam for Credit Identity Services Internet

In March 2009 I accepted an internet offer to obtain a free copy of my credit report, and a trial membership for $1. Responding to the ad, I took the trial membership, and printed out a copy of their TERMS OF MEMBERSHIP AND MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT. This agreement is ambiguous and does nothing to describe the actual services or benefits to be provided.

I called within the trial period and cancelled, and received an email confirming this had been done.

Thereafter, I did NOT adequately monitor my credit card statements, and only after several months did I notice I was being charged 3 different monthly fees - $1 for Yoursavings; $1 for PMIDENTITY; and $29.95 PMIDENTITY.

When I called them on the number listed on the credit card statement, they were apologetic, and said they would immediately cancel the services. The worker I spoke with told me she could not refund previous services because no cancellation had been received.

I was told by this telephone agent that when I registered, I was enrolled in three separate programs, but I only cancelled one of them, so the other charges continued.

I asked to speak to her supervisor, and she quickly agreed to refund the past charges. I now notice that the name of the provider for these services on my current charge card statement is different, so I will probably need to contact them as well.

I consider this to be a clever scam.
