Our business, Shark Island Grill, recently subleased the deli section of AlkaPlaya's Store, Gordon's Market. We agreed to $2000 for deposit and 1st month's rent. $1500 cash and $500 balance for clean up and repairs that our lessor wanted us to do. The place was never provided ready and habitable, instead we did the clean up, after our lessor finally moved just enough of her items being stored in our sublease. We also made some of the necessary repairs to provide proper food service and comply with the Health Dept. Rather than honor our work and costs, our lessor decided to jack up our rent the moment we moved in, by another $1000. I reminded her that was not our original agreement, which made her angry and she yelled, "I want $1500 today, I don't care." From then on, the harrasment only worsened with her trying to charge us $500 every week, upon seeing our business was busy. She began discouraging our customers from purchasing from us by badmouthing us and questioning them for purchasing from us. She'd yell at us in front of our customers about wanting more money until I asked her to please put everything in writing. The courts also granted us a Civil Harrasment Restraining Order against our Lessor because of the overwhelming harrasment. We have now received and 30 day Unlawful Detainer from our lessor and look forward to letting the courts resolve such an ugly situation. Rather than await such, our lessor is attempting to unlawfully evict us by telling the Health Dept she is revoking our access to the facility's mutual restroom and as such our Health Permit to operate cannot be fully granted, forcing us into shutting down our business, regardless of our full compliance. It is our understanding that she did the same thing to the last tenant she subleased to. We have now lost 4 days of profits due to our lessors malicious actions against us.

The Shark Island Grill RipOff Report Is Completely False.

AUTHOR: DLG - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, August 29, 2016

The RipOff Report by Shark Island Grill about AlkaPlaya Gordon’s Market is completely false. I know this because the so-called owners of Shark Island Grill brought two lawsuits against the landlords and store and lost both of them. They also were evicted from the store because they failed to pay the rent they agreed to pay and the Health Department shut them down for a number of reasons, and not because the the landlord revoked anything regarding the bathroom.

Interestingly, in their RipOff Report, the Shark Island Grill people now say they shared the bathroom with the landlord, but before the Shark Island Grill people falsely claimed they had an exclusive right and even tried to physically prevent the landlord and the store's customers from using the bathroom.  These people went so far as to demand money from Alkaplaya’s owners in exchange for dropping their baseless lawsuits.  The owners rightfully refused to pay these people anything and beat the Shark Island Grill people at their own game, defeating the false lawsuits.

The Shark Island Grill people say in their RipOff Report that “they look forward to letting the courts resolve such an ugly situation.”   Well, the courts did, in fact, resolve the "ugly" situation, COMPLETELY AGAINST THE SHARK ISLAND GRILL PEOPLE ON EVERYTHING!

But you don’t have to take my word for any of this.  All you have to do is take a look at the Los Angeles Superior Court records for both cases – Case No. 14R08387 and Case No. SS024852 – which establish the truth what is being said here and the falsity of the Shark Island Grill’s RipOff Report.  The only thing the owners of Alkaplaya Gordon’s Market ever did wrong was to do business with these rip-off Shark Island Grill people.
