Pomroy's Complete Tree & Yard Work Kaipo Pomroy Ripped me off on deposit for tree removal and yard work Hilo Hawaii

Kaipo Pomroy came to my place in HPP on about 06-13-16 to give me a bid on some tree removal and yard work.  As I still had a business card from him from an earlier time I had him come and give a bid I thought he was legitimate. He talked a big story about his company and his crew, and how he was one of the few tree cutters certified to cut trees for HELCO.  

He told me I would have to give him half down on the job.  I told him I'd think about it.  I got back to him several days later and told him I'd take him up on it.  On 06-16-16 I gave a to Kaipo Pomroy $120.00 and told him I would have to go to the bank to get the rest, which I would have the next day.  He said he had to go and get gas for his weedeater and would be back later.  He did show up for about an hour the next day and did a little yard work, but I think mainly showed up to get the rest of the deposit.   In all I gave him $420.00 on the deposit.  He did show up the next day when he was supposed to cut the trees, but brought a chain saw that he couldn't get started, and a rope which was totally inadequate for pulling down the coconut palms and iron wood trees he was supposed to be cutting.  He ended up doing another hour of weedeating.  

Then he had one excuse after another for not showing up to do the job.  I told him I would either need the work done or the rest of my deposit back or I would be calling the police.  His wife even called one day to say she would come and finish the yard work, but she never showed or contacted me.  

I did call the police, and because I had taken the licence number of the truck he was driving one day (which was his dad's) they were able to track him down.  He totally lied to them and said he'd done 10 hours of yard work, when to do my entire yard only takes six hours, and he'd only done maybe 1/4 of my yard.  The police, after talking to him, told me I would have to take him to small claims court.  I figured even when you have a clear case as I did and win, there isn't really any way to get money out of dead beats like him, so I didn't bother.  But I do feel I should warn others about him through any means I could.
