Poplar Bluff municipal utilities and city cable

I bought my home in august of 2006 since then I have been a customer of Poplar Bluff municipal utilities and city cable electric company. This company has yet to give me my deposit back keep in mind I am buying my home. Sure it is only a $150.00 deposit but to me that is a lot of money I am just a college student. Also my rates are unbelievable.

They went from $100 in January to $200 in February to $230 in March that is a $130 dollar increase in 2 months. My water went from $7 to $20 in 2 months. We also have to pay a fee on top of our bill called a purchase power adjustment which is around 10% of my bill. This company is an unfair monopoly in Poplar Bluff. And when my electric cost me 1 weeks pay its too much.

I turned everything off in my house and looked at my electric meter outside and it was still making a complete rotation every 3.5 seconds. I asked them to come and look at it and verify I had nothing on in the house and they did. The company told me that it could be my hot water heater. Are you kidding me I am paying $150+ a month for hot water, I dont think so!

This is a bad company and is getting away with a horrible scam on me. Oh by the way my parents also live a block over and see bills less than half of mine and use way more electric and water than I do.

Your deposit/electric usage

AUTHOR: Michael - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, November 11, 2011

Anyone reading the agreement when starting service with municipal utilities knows that you DON'T get your deposit back till you terminate service with them. So if you die in your house then your final bill will be paid with it and remainder sent to your estate.

As for the electric usage I have lived in poplar bluff for years and my highest bill has been 67.00.

So therecould be something wrong with wiring cause that can cause usage to be higher if there is shorts or if there is a faulty appliance in the home. Just my 2 cents.

Just a suggestion if it is older house then Rewire. If new house then have wiring checked.

The electric rates in poplar bluff are less than 8 cents per kw so you must be using quite a bit or have problems with wiring somewhere.
