DONT BUY A USED CAR EXTENDED SERVICE CONTRACT FROM PREFERRED WARRANTIES OF PENNSYLVANIA. Their exclusions are comprehensive, meaning that it is VERY unlikely that you will ever recover on a claim.
Check some of their exclusions at http://autowarranty.8m.net and then ASK your mechanic how likely it would be to have a problem that IS covered by their contracts.
They REQUIRE that you make your decision on the service contract at the time of auto purchase, and they GIVE NO REFUNDS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
Stay away from this companys service contracts! If your dealer offers their warranties for free, ask them to reduce the price of the vehicle by the amount they would have to pay for the warranty. Free is how much the warranty is worth to the consumer, but it is not how much it costs.
Check out their claims at their website www.warrantys.com

VERY unprofessional Mr. White! Turn your caps off please. If you don't know where the shift key is, at least type in lower case.
You need to research the market some more. It is my experience that car dealers are using the PWI warranty to sell cars that have an existing problem. Yes, I know, this will open a Pandora's box of comments from used car dealers, but I have first hand experience in this matter.
Just last night, I looked at a car that was generally in good shape, but it had a problem with the four wheel drive. It engaged and worked fine. However, if a turn was initiated, on a dirt surface, the system made clunking noises and bound up. The PWI warranty was used as an incentive to purchase the car with the statement that if, whatever it is, failed, the PWI warranty would fix it. I didn't buy the car, but I'm sure this scenario is common. The dealers take was that the 4-wheel drive is functioning as it should, in that it engages and all four wheels are driving. And, with that, I have to agree. It works fine in a straight line. However, I don't feel confident that repairs would be covered if I purposely drove it until what ever is causing the problem actually broke and disabled the vehicle.
It wouldn't surprise me if the man making the complaint against PWI had the same situation used to sell him the car he ended up with. In any case, you have to consider the consumer's side. It is my experience that 99% of the consuming automobile-owning public knows very little about the mechanics of cars, what makes noises, and what those noises mean. You say you are there to serve the client, but as with all such matters, the person paying you the money is really who you and your company serve. Real estate companies, ebay, and all other services where the seller pays the fees, give the preferential treatment to the payer and NOT the client that you say you are there for, despite what you, or any of them, say to the contrary(Yes, I know, another Pandora's box was just opened). YOU have to face the fact, that at the very least, dealers use the extended warranty to assuage a buyer's hesitation about buying something they aren't sure about, and at the extreme use it to sell a vehicle they know is junk.
If you were truly there for the insured, you would contact the dealer, try to intercede, and threaten to no longer serve that dealer with your service. If the dealer won't take the car back in trade for another he has, or offer some other form of adjudication, you should sanction that dealer and enter a report on this site about THE DEALER!
Your subsequent apology is worthless without some followup action on the part of your firm and yourself to help the client you say you are there for. Man-up and show us what you can DO for him!
If you want to undo the Public Relations nightmare your tirade caused your firm, you really shouldn't respond to this post with some additional uninformed, emotional spouting. Just read it, accept it for what it offers YOU, and act on the matter as you and your firm should. Then post what you have done to help the consumer you say you are there to serve. That will show the consuming public that your firm truly is "there" for your clients. Anything else is worthless lip service.

Rebuttal:
January 16, 2002
This letter is in response to allegations about the business practices of Preferred Warranties that have begun to appear on numerous Web sites, including autowarranty.8m.net. We have investigated the source of these allegations and believe that they all originate with one disgruntled customer. Out of respect for this individual's privacy, we will refer to him here as Mr. X.
We understand why Mr. X is angry. We respectfully suggest, however, that he doesn't have a valid reason to be angry with Preferred Warranties. He recently purchased a 1993 Toyota Camry. According to information provided by Mr. X, the vehicle was making an unusual clattering noise the same day he purchased it. Shortly after, Mr. X. discovered that his Camry was using
oil. Then, the vehicle began to smoke so badly that he could no longer drive it.
Mr. X. took his Camry to a repair shop, where the diagnosis and inspection indicated that the problem was due to excessive wear existing at the time the vehicle was purchased, along with a notable lack of proper maintenance. In short, the problems with the Camry existed when Mr. X
bought the car.
Mr. X purchased a vehicle with significant, existing defects, leaving us with no choice but to deny his claim. Reasonable dealers and consumers don 't expect to sell or buy a car that's already broken and have it repaired by Preferred Warranties. For whatever reason, Mr. X failed to discover the existing defects before he purchased the vehicle. Then he tried to
interpret the service contract as guarantee to the quality and condition of his vehicle. Regrettably, we can't possibly provide such a guarantee.
Our service contracts cover defects that develop after purchase. This provides peace of mind in the form of protection against the cost of repairing defects that could not possibly have been discovered at the time of purchase, because they simply didn't exist. Unfortunately, however, we can't offer the type of guarantee Mr. X wants and continue to offer cost-effective protection to our thousands of satisfied customers.
At Preferred Warranties, we remain committed to honoring all of our obligations under the terms of our contracts and providing unsurpassed customer service. We're in this business for the long term and this month marks our 10th anniversary. Along the way, we've earned recognition and numerous awards, including the 1997-98 Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics presented by the Better Business Bureau serving Northeast and Central
Pennsylvania, and being ranked among the Inc. 500 in 1998, a list of the 500 fastest growing U.S. companies.
More importantly, over the past decade, we have enjoyed serving many happy customers. Some of them take the time to write us a note of appreciation. We have also maintained long-term relationships with many excellent dealers over the years. They will tell you the strength of our company lies in the way we handle and pay claims. Our ASE-certified Claims Adjusters take pride in providing quality customer service.
We invite you to visit the Better Business Bureau Web site at
www.nepa.bbb.org and read for yourself a report on Preferred Warranties online. At Preferred Warranties, we're confident in our record of service, which we believe speaks for itself.
Sincerely,
Wayne E. Herring
President
Preferred Warranties, Inc.
P.S. As of this writing, Mr. X's contract with us is still effective. If he should have a covered claim before the expiration, we're still here for him, as we are for all of our customers.

STOP! ..before you think about using the Better Business Bureau (BBB)... click here to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! When there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business? Click here to understand more of what consumers and business alike are saying about the BBB. You decide.
