I had taken a default on my student loan when I had left my full time management job to start an organic farm. When that fell through and some very bad personal things happened I los track of my federal loan. One day I open my pay chek and there is a garnishment for $589 !!!!! To my surprise and shcok! No letter , no certified mail , no phone calls!!!! HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN!!! WHen I did my reseach starting with meHR department I finally reached Preimere. THey had my former name , address and phone numbe prior to a divorce 4 years ago. For FIVE months I made phone calls, filled out papaer work all the while they continued to take $1100.oo to now $1280.00 a MONTH(that is   mortgage payment ) out of my pay. I have been trying to work out a way to get the garnishment removed and set up a regular payment plan. in the end they wanted another $500 a month, above and on top of the $1200 what I am already paying  for 9months to show good faith before I could get a regular loan . I only owed $17,000. at the time! do the math. The loan would be paid at that rate by then!!! Here I am 5 monnths later . No one will give me credit to get a loan to pay them off becaiuse of my "garnishemnt" and my low credit score thanks to them. I am in a catch 22. Not right, not fair.
