I bought a Toyota pickup from Price Point "as is - no warrenty." I asked if there had been any previous damage to it, such as accidents or any work done on it. The dealer specifically said no. He also added theat they did a full inspection of the truck.
Now it is three months later. The truck needs a new piston head and cylinder. Which will cost me $1,500 or more to fix. I still owe $2,000 on the truck. And now they are saying they told me it had previous work done on it and that they never did an inspection.
And they are trying to tell me it's my fault and I'm out of luck. I don't think so. I want to take them to court for this.
In addition to all of this, as if it wasn't bad enough already, they lost my registration, insurance and title. I got pulled over for expired tags and got fines for all of this stuff. Clearly, it is their fault, and they won't help me out at all. They are going to wish that they never tried to screw me over. I will get satisfaction out of this.

Bought my last car at Price Point

Mary,
I feel for you. I bought my last car from Price Point of NY in Vestal, NY. Granted this was February 2001, I still had trouble. I bought a 1995 Nissan Maxima with 89,000 miles. It seemed like a really clean car. It came with an extended warranty, et el. However, the check engine light was on. They sent the car to Miller Nissan in Vestal to have the oxygen sensor(s) replaced. The car was in the shop for 3 WEEKS!!! The repair was temporary, and the light came back on. I don't even recall the car having a current inspection before I bought it (those of you from NY, PA, NJ and VA know what I am talking about). I had the new(er) car bug, and went with the deal anyway. BIG MISTAKE. This ended up being the single worst car I have ever owned. I just recently sold it with 168,000 miles for $1000. Unfortunately, Price Point was owned by Alexander Auto Group in Williamsport, PA. I never had satisfaction of a good operating car that I bought from one of their dealers. Price Point then suddenly closed 6 months later. Keep a thousand things in mind when buying a used car.
1) Regardless where or from who you are purchasing a used car, you are more than likely buying their problem.
2) NEVER trust a car salesman (dealer or private seller). All they want is your money - simple as that.
3) Get EVERYTHING in writing. The dullest pencil is always better than the sharpest mind. If they claimed it had no prior damage, you should have gotten it in writing, or anything else they told you for that matter.
By and large, I totally feel for you. I have been there. This is why the used car industry is always viewed as being dishonest and unethical. To them, we are nothing more than a walking blank check. It's too bad that the DMV and state don't begin a campaign to reduce consumer abuse at car dealers. Write to your state assembly or congressman/woman and let them know your experience. Believe it or not, it just might get you some well deserved help from the dealer. Please let me know what happens. Best of luck.

What???
AUTHOR: Carl - (U.S.A.)

First of all, you purchased a used car or truck. Unless there is a written warrentee, anything the salesman says is not worth the toilet paper he uses. They will tell you anything to get you to sign on the dotted line. Especially if you are a female(no not sexist, just a fact)or a foreigner.
With the damage that you indicate, the dealer is correct in assuming that you did something. It was running when you left the lot right? Well what happened? No oil change? First thing to do with a used car is total going over by a mechanic and fluids changed. Don't trust the dealer saying they did- it's bullcrap. ReRead the first sentence. Dealer has no idea of what you did or did not do. They deal with flakes all the time and they WILL assume that you are one as well-- I am not insinuating that you are- just their attitude. They are in business to make money and how they make it is by essentially stealing from consumers. Lord knows I have been taken enough times.
It is pointless to pursue this unless you have a specific warrentee in writing. No court in town will hear it.
I hate to say this but you got screwed and didn't even get kissed.
BUT AND THIS IS IMPORTANT. They can't sell any vehicle without a valid title if you are in a title state. It is against the law. That you can pursue and I urge you to do such. I bought a 2 year old Mercedes from a second rate lot a few years ago and they could not produce a clean title. I found out via the Dept of Rev. I called attorney and he gave advise. I went back to dealer with this info. They tried to tell me that they could not know the laws of every state in regards to titling. BULLSHIT I told thm-- it is your business to know. Now either refund all the money or take this back and give me a titleable car. They took the later because they knew they were in the wrong. I also demanded 2000 in cash to reimburse me for the crap-- THEY PAID.
Good luck Mary
