Prima Games has a long history of making strategy guides for video games so I went to their site to purchase one for a game I was having issues with.  When I arrived at the site, I saw that you were able to purchase electronic copies and found that enticing.  I looked up the game I needed and they offered me a 10-page preview of the guide.  I opened the easily accessible PDF file, liked what I saw and continued to purchase the entire product.  After checkout I found out the full version guide is jailed in their own version of Adobe software and the guide is nowhere near as nice & friendly as the sample was.  You're restrticted in how you may view it, where you may view it and who may view it.  This report however is not a complaint about the restrictions, those are a matter of opinion.  I'm writing this because Prima makes very little to almost no attempt to let the buyer know of the restrictions of their products.  The free sample is extremely misleading, causing customers (at least myself) to believe the product will be in the same format and type.  My suggestion is either go to the store and purchase the physical copy or shop at one of Prima's competitors for a similar product that you will actually  own after purchasing.

What you describe is fairly standard for the type of document you describe.   The sample is delivered in a free, unrestricted .pdf because they want anyone to have easy access to it.    The actual guide, on the other hand, is going to need some very restricted access if they're going to make money selling it.    Think about it.  If they published the guide in a completely unrestricted .pdf format, would they ever sell more than a few of them?  Probably not.  Bootleg copies would be flying through the gaming community at light speed.   Such is the nature of digital publishing.

You're right though.  They should probably advise potential buyers of the restricted nature of digital manuals for those who have not purchased them before.
