Principal Residential Mortgage ripoff Unconscionable Lying and Deception, Des Moines Iowa

Watch out for this bunch! They will knife you in the back in a heartbeat, regardless of what they tell you, and feel absolutely no remorse for destroying your life.
My nightmare began when I fell behind on my mortgage payments due to circumstances beyond my control. Principal referred me to their "loss mitigation department" so they could supposedly help me save my home. They had me fill out a financial statement to send to them and from there, they would see what they could do. Shortly after I filled out and submitted the paperwork, I found a part time job that gave me a substantial increase in monthly income. I called repeatedly to tell the Principal caseworker, but they never answered their phone or returned my messages.

Finally, I got a letter from Principal that was dated a week before the date I received it, saying that the only option available to me was to payback the arrearage, and that my financial statement did not support that. It further stated that selling the house was an option, and that I could avoid foreclosure that way.

Again, I also had acquired a part time job that gave me an additional 500.00 per month that would no doubt have changed the picture, but they never returned my calls or answered their phones so I could not communicate this to them, or discuss any other options for that matter. No mention in the letter of imminent foreclosure. In fact, their literature that came along with the financial statement paperwork stated that they could help sell a home to avoid foreclosure.

Since Principal refused to return my calls or answer their phones, I hired a firm to contact them for me. Now, this is where it gets interesting. After repeated calls they finally reached a live human being at Principal. It turns out that Principal foreclosed on my home IMMEDIATELY after they sent that previously mentioned letter it took me a week to receive, the one that mentioned avoiding foreclosure. They had absolutely NO intention of trying to help me do anything at all, not keep the house, not sell it, nothing. Even more telling, the firm I contracted to help me told me Principal even LAUGHED about the situation.

Since when is foreclosing on a person's home a laughing matter? What kind of people can laugh as they ruin another person's life? Are these the kind of people you want to do business with?

In the end, Principal took my home, destroyed my credit, kept my equity, and ruined my life. All this could have been avoided had someone gotten off their butt and RETURNED MY CALLS! If they honestly had tried and just could not do anything to help, I could have understood fully and felt no ill will, but that isn't the case.

If you ever find yourself behind on your mortgage with Principal, and they contact you claiming to want to help, DON'T BELIEVE THEM!!! File for bankruptcy if you feel you must, get legal advice, whatever, but if you want to keep your home, DO NOT believe a word these scumbags tell you!!

Now, I wish the laws of karma to bring them the grief, pain and ruin they brought me threefold. May they taste the grief and pain they caused me, and may they be laughed at as they laughed at me.
