In late November/early December, I signed up with "Privacy Matters" - a "free" 7-day trial period during which time I was suppose to have unlimited access to all three of my credit reports. After the trial period was over, a monthly fee of $19.95 would automaticly be deducted from my checking account unless I chose to cancel.

After activating my membership, I attempted to view my credit report but, with all three agencies, was told that "insufficient information" was available. I tried back a couple of days later and, when the same message was displayed, I canceled my membership. I know that the cancelation took place on December 14, 2006 because I made a notation of it in my day planner.

Well, the later part of December was filled with the holidays and January was hectic preparing for my February 3rd wedding. Ten days after the wedding I underwent surgery to remove some cancerous cells in my left breast.

All that to say, I was about four months behind on balancing my checkbook. Imagine my surprise last week when I sat down to balance and discovered that Privacy Matters has continued to bill my account each month in the amount of $19.95! It took my bank several days to trace the charges back to them and track down a phone number.

I called the company and spoke with "Annie" who told me that apparently my initial cancelation never went into effect but that she would cancel it effective today and refund this month's charges. I told her that I expected to be refunded for the full $79.80 that has been fraudulently drawn from my checking account over the past four months. She said she couldn't do this a transfered me to her supervisor.

"Trevor" (the supervisor) told me that the best he could do was refund me for two months.

I am frustrated because not only did I cancel my membership with them, the membership didn't even work BEFORE I canceled! That is THE REASON for the initial cancelation.

I have since filled an offical report with the Better Business Bureau. When I came across your website and saw that there were others who had been swindled just like me I wanted to post my story and encourage each of you to go to the BBB website to view the report. I would also like to ask that anyone who has been similarily ripped-off would click on the link entitled "If you have information you would like to provide regarding this complaint" and just type in that you have experienced a similar rip-off. They don't give much space, but every little bit helps.
