Being a Disabled Veteran, I have circumstances that leave me to being self employed as the means to support my family. I responded to an ad in Small Business Opportunities magazine in reference to reconditioning batteries. The ad was put in by Protec/Battery Doctor, Inc. I was required to fill out prequalifying application reference financial status.

I was qualified and had to cash in my long term disability(Symetra) in order to purchase program, and get to work. Upon sending Protec/Battery Doctors $13,690 I received via shipping company some manuals(outdated) and some container of solution, and they stated I was ready to get started at making money.

I read the information, did some research via the web, along with contacting local places for used batteries(nothing was as stated in manual) Batteries were not free(cost $3,50-$7.50)and easy to find(not at all). I called the salesman Arnold Perez explaining to him this was nothing like I was explained about over the phone, and I was going to return all products and wanted full refund. He said that I didn't give it a chance and that I should first go to a training facility in PA (RM Battery Doctors of NEPA)phone #570-441-9184 Owner Jeff Machamer.

Since my investment was $13,690 and Arnold stated there was a no refund policy, I spent an additional $1,000 paid to RM Battery Doctors for training of myself and wife, and travel expenses from WI to PA, on top of the training fees. This trip reaffirmed my previous findings as RM Battery Doctors first puts all batteries on charges prior to using any solutions to recondition, and he had to purchase all his batteries for a fee not free.

Did immediately contact Salesman Perez upon returning to Wisconsin demanding the ability to return all products for full refund, he gave me the corporate office number where I spoke with the Protec International secretary, and was later transferred to Marc Keith, the President, I explained my findings/concerns and demanded the ability for returning the products and getting full refund, which he denied.

I being self employed prior and with all moneys invested did attempt to make this so called business opportunity work. Initial application in January 2008 trained in May 2008, attempted to work business starting in July 2008 with no success of refund of initial $13,690. Had to invest additional funds for EPA commercial paint booth, transporting trailer for batteries, advertising, paints, cleaners, and resale/merchandising equipment totally over additional $20,000. Attempted to operated so called business until March 2009 with continuous complaints and concerns go to the corporate level, where in March of 2009 I had to just dissolve the company as was conitunously verifying that the product was not legitamate.

I have placed numerous calls to corporate, filed complaints with the BBB of California, Consumer affairs.com,Dept. of Ag, Trade & Consumer Protection-WI, Dept of Consumer Affairs-CA, and now this one. I have spoke to many other individuals that were ripped off by this same company with the same complaints/concerns as mine.

Mike, I feel your pain

AUTHOR: JD - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, August 19, 2010

I, too, purchased a Battery Doctor distribitorship in April 2009, and attended the training program in PA for three days as suggested by the salesman.  After attending the training I learned I would not be able to do business at my home even though I had added a 8x30 foot addition just for this purpose.  I would have to have a paint booth built and approved by the County codes, proper licensing for re-furbishing batteries along with additional investments and supplies not included in the original $13,500 industrial package which I had to purchase prior to attending the training.  Also, I had asked for references of other successful dealerships, and the salesman gave me ONE person other than the one in PA where I attended the training.  I still have the original package of products and supplies I received along with training manuals, etc.  which I would be more than happy to SELL to someone for a lot less than I paid for.  Everything is still new as I received it.  My phone is 678-520-4404, please call make me an offer before you invest the full amount.  I can only say I allowed myself to purchase prior to fully checking it out.  There should be some form of return for credit allowed by Battery Doctors/Pro Tech under Mike's circumstances.  My guess is, for every one of the people who purchase a Battery Doctor's program, you will probably find about one in 25 who are still working it after a few short months.  Oh, after purchasing my program, I HAVEN'T HEARD FROM anyone at Battery Doctor's.  This tells me something.  I certainly would like my money back, but it looks doubtful, they have all the cards.  Also, used batteries are NOT readily available in my area either.  Good luck Mike in your endeavor, and thanks for your service to our country.

Battery Doctor?

AUTHOR: Scooter - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, November 14, 2009

I am sorry to hear of your bad luck. I am not part of Protec/Battery Doctor or any other company. But I have been reconditioning batteries since the mid 80's and I love it. I take junk car batteries and reconditioned them.  Most of the batteries I get are free others I buy. I recondition 10 to 13 at a time 3 or 4 may fail but the others are ready to rock. The weak batteries I sale to car lots at 10.00 each no guarantee. Junk batteries I save them to sell to the junk yard, this makes for a good Christmas. I build my own chargers use only distilled water. I learned the hard way battery additives do not work. Fact is, a bad battery is just that bad and nothing is going to change it.  If the battery cell voltage is at two volts per cell. After reconditioning without any additives the battery will be one of these 12.6 volt with amps- good, 12.6 volt low or no amps-junk, no volts no amps- junk. Advice stay away from car lots with the best batteries sell them the weak good ones. Stay away from fleets and corporations they want it cheap and takes months to get the money. Build your business one person at a time make sure each person is one hundred percent happy. Use the KISS method price plus one year guarantee no questions asked. Buying batteries don't ever pay 7.50 to 10.00 per battery. I pay three dollars a battery people tell me they can get 10.00 per battery I tell them to go for it. This works because the poor can't pay new battery price. Now days poor people are very where.
