Pro Alert alarm company that I subscribed to for alarm service at my old house "lost" my letters of cancellation (2 of them) when I moved. Now because there's a new owner of the house they say they can't disconnect the alarm until the owner contacts them. But either the new owner won't contact them or they "lose" their calls as well, and have forced me into an ongoing contract.

Essentially they won't let me out of the contract because they lose my letters of cancellation, tell me after i've moved that the new owner must contact them, and that I will be charged eternally until a disconnection occurs. This is even after my contract has expired.

I've since cancelled my visa card where it was being billed, disputed the charges with Visa, the Better Business Bureau and the State Attorney General's office. BUT they've continued to bill me and my bill is now "delinquent."

Yeah Dave, seems like that's a common occurence in the business world. This's just a suggestion for future issues of this nature:
.
In my area (and probably elsewhere) cellular providers require a 30 days advance notice of intent to cancel services. These providers (two of which I have personal knowledge) are notorious for somehow forgetting / losing / denying receipt of the cancellation, sometimes multiple times. This obviously provides them with a continuing stream of income.
.
I and my circle of friends memorialize such requests, making two copies. It then requires a trip to the local office, for an employee to sign the dated, CUSTOMER'S copy of this document. At that point, you've got 'em by the short hairs if they deny receipt of the order of termination.
.
In fact, I would welcome such a denial. Like shooting fish in a barrel.
