Before I hired professional-resumes.com, I had been out of work for almost 2 months. I decided to update my resume in order to expedite the process. After many hours of research and reviewing what the many resume services had to offer, I chose professional-resumes.com. It has turned out to be one of the worst online experiences in my life.

First of all, the billing is done through a third party. This should have been a big red flag for me. However, after being laid off from a small company, I understand that it is not possible to perform some business transactions in-house when you have a web presence. I was willing to look past this detail in the beginning. However, when I received my credit card bill, I noticed that the billing company was overseas. This got me nervous, and rightfully so.

After going through the writing process and receiving my final resume, I was glad that I was done with the first leg of the journey back to the job market. After posting the resume to numerous job boards and sending it out to potential employers, I was unnerved to be getting calls for sales jobs. This would have been fine for me if I was a salesman of any kind rather than a graphic designer. I then started to have reservations about my purchase. I continued to use the resume for 2 months, with zero responses after the initial outburst of offers for work in sales.

After hiring another firm to assist me in my job search, I requested a refund from professional-resumes.com. Rather than be greeted with an understanding response, I was told that my request was not valid since it was beyond 90 days, which was false. I disputed that claim, then I received an email stating that I did not apply to enough jobs to warrant a refund. This is where the wheels fell of.

Nowhere on the professional-resumes.com website does it state that there is a minimum application requirement for any refund requests to be honored. And to hear this from a "person of stature" within the organization reeks of poor business practices. For $227, you would think that the company would just own up to its shortcomings and gladly refund my money since I am in a position of need. That's what a reputable company would do. Not professional-resumees.com. If you're in the market to have your resume re-written, I suggest you save your money and buy a few books and do it yourself. Or at least make sure you check the company's BBB listing if you choose to hire one. If they're not listed, avoid them, no matter what the online reviews say.

The fight continues...
