Progressive Finance Progressive Leasing Progressive earned $700 million dollars in 2014 by gouging customers with challenge credit Draper Utah

I visited Mattress Firm Store #002112 on August 29, 2014 and was approved for $1200 from Progressive Finance.  I purchased a mattress set and two pillows and paid an initial payment of $49.00.  Delivery was scheduled for Sunday, August 31, 2014 between 12 and 4 pm.  Things went smoothly until I received the welcome letter on September 4, 2014 with the wrong information.  It stated that “my merchandise was delivered on 8/29/2014 and if it was not correct, please contact our office as soon as possible.”  I called the following day to give the CSR the correct information and she informed me that I must contact Mattress Firm and they would need to correct the date.  My first thought was “why do I need to contact Mattress Firm to do what I already had in my possession?”  I had the documentation to prove that the date was incorrect. 

 I decided to end all business between Mattress Firm and Progressive Finance because of disorganization, lack of concern, and deceptive sales practices.  I called Progressive Finance on November 10, 2014 to see what I needed to do in order to end my contract and I was instructed to go to Mattress Firm and sign a cancellation form.  Mattress Firm instructed me that it would be a charge of $150 restocking fee charged on the account and after all balances have been deducted and the remaining balance that I have paid into the account would be refunded.   I signed the cancellation form to end our business relationship on November 15, 2014.  The mattress set was picked up.  On Monday, November 17, 2014, I received a call from Progressive demanding payment and I told the CSR that I had cancelled my contract with Progressive and the merchandise had been returned.  He told me that he would notate the account and would contact me in a week or so because he hadn’t received paperwork from Mattress Firm.  Later that afternoon I received a notification from Bank of America that my account was overdrawn.  After reviewing my account, I discovered that Progressive Finance had drafted a payment of $96.78 from my account (after the merchandise was returned).  I called Progressive to inquire about the transaction and was told that in order to cease future transactions they would have to receive the paperwork from Mattress Firm Corporate offices.  I forward a copy of the cancellation form and they wouldn’t accept it.   I waited two weeks for the final bill and refund and it wasn’t until I sent an e-mail to Mattress Firm Corporate offices and copied Progressive that the cancellation form miraculously appeared and I received a final bill.  But it was still incorrect because the $49.00 initial payment and the $96.78 that was taken out of my account after the merchandise was return weren’t reflected in the bill as a return.  As a matter of fact, the dates were changed from November 17^th to November 15^th.  When payments were drafted out of my account previously they were always drafted like clockwork, the 15^th and the 30^th as the contracted stated, but the last payment was drafted two days afterwards after I received a called from Progressive regarding payment.

Are you aware that drafting funds out of someone’s account after the customer has signed a cancellation form and merchandise is returned is theft?  I’m requesting that the amount of $145.78 is returned to my account.   Progressive takes pride in assisting people with challenged credit.  “No one should have to leave a store empty handed because of bad credit or the inability to pay upfront.  Progressive Finance provides a unique NO CREDIT NEEDED lease purchase option tailor-made for both stores and customers.”   I was with Progressive less than 90 days and I believe that you saw an opportunity to take advantage of people who can’t out right go and purchase items.  What I’ve found is that the employees that I came in contact with changed dates and amounts on my statements to coincide with what they were telling me.  But it doesn’t match what my bank statement says.  Progressive also stands behind the ”Lease With Purchase Rights” which doesn’t disclose the $49.00 initial fee as being “non-refundable.”  I’m not an attorney so I would like for you to explain how Progressive is able to keep the initial fee and justify stealing $96.78 from my account.
