I purchased a Home Alarm Wireless System about a
year ago through this company. I phoned Protect American, Inc. twice in regards
to cancelling my service since I will not be residing at this address anymore
nor will I have a need for it. They told me I signed up for a 3 year contract
and that I have approximately 2 years left until my contract expires. There is
no indication on there giving options for early cancellation except to pay the
remaining fees for the months I have to cover. There isn't even a reasonable
cancellation fee offered. Since the monthly fee for this service is $39.95/mo
automatic withdraw, I will have to pay about $950.00 just to clear my name
otherwise collection agencies will come after me. I am more than willing to
ship back the equipment but I am being threatened my credit will be jeopardized
and a collection agency will go after the funds. I will have to pay for a
service I am no longer using. In fact, I have not been using it and they are
insisting payment. The last time I phoned Protect America was yesterday morning
on July 12. I phoned them a week earlier prior to that. They kept stating there
was no way to terminate the contract unless I pay all the upfront fees for the
remainder of my 2 years. I currently live in Visalia, CA
93277. The company will not lose out on my absence but I will be inconvenienced
gravely. I am shocked at the level of customer service inadequacy this company
has. This is considered unethical practices. Moreover, when I tried to modify my
services about 8 months ago, they tried charging me again. It was inconsistent
because someone from customer service will tell me one moment I will have to
pay $150 to trade in my motion detector for a glass break detector. When I
spoke to someone else, they told me it would be free. I will insist to
consumers to be weary about doing business with Protect America in the future
if this issue is not resolved.

Your contract governs all...

Read your contract carefully, I doubt it says your contract will be cancelled without penalty if you move.

Sorry for your trouble.
