They claim their insurance will provide a new phone if your is lost, stolen, damaged, or broken. What they don't tell you is the $125 "admin" fee you will have to pay to get that replacement phone. Considering that the phone cost $99 with a signup at Verizon, the cost of the insurnace and the fee could buy 3 new phones. They are a complete rip off. Google it and you will find plenty of complaints. I'm filing with the Deparment of Consumer Protection.

Hi Jim,
Sorry to hear you're still frustrated. To your point of the price difference, the coverage ProtectCELL offers comes with many features not found in other plans--BuyBack, ID Theft Support, and Data Protection, to name a few. Again, our intent is not to misinform or outright deceive customers in any way, and we go to great lengths to ensure the various representatives across the country operate at the same standard.
Regards,
ProtectCELL

Your rep kept giving me the same argument. "If you had to buy a new phone...." Problem is that is false. We are talking about an old iphone 4 here. They can be had on ebay for $100. So I paid for the insurance for this phone, then you wanted to charge me your crazy "admin" fee when it stopped working. I could have bought two replacements for the cost of your insurance + admin fee.
Verizon's own insurance on a new iphone 5 is less than I was charge for an old 4, and their replacement fee is less, so your insurance is still a "Rip-off".

Hello Jim,
We'resorry that the sales reps that sold you the ProtectCELL plan didn't explain the admin fees to you. We provide training and in-store materials that inform the reps of the fees and reccomend they provide customers with that information so they don't feel blindsided when they go to make a request. A "dedcutbile" like fee is common in all types of insurance including cell phone.
Also, the $99 you paid for your phone in-store was becuae you had an upgrade avaialble to you. If you would have went back to the store to try and purhcase another one, it wouldn't have cost you $99 but $500+ depending on what smartphone you have. So althought the price of the plan and admin fee seems like a lot, it's still actually less than what you would have paid for a new phone from the store.
Again, our appologies that you felt blindsided and ripped off. That's the last thing we want our over 2 million customers to feel.
Regards,
ProtectCELL
