We recently purchased our home security system with ADT (thru a flyer we got in the mail), or rather with a local "ADT Authorized Dealer" called "Protect Your Home or Defender Security", SO MANY NAMES!!  Anyway, a savvy young salesguy came to the house and gave us a very convincing pitch regarding how our house wasn't properly secured.  We built our home 6 yrs. ago and the security system that was hard-wired in was not working right and would keep going off for no reason, PLUS the monitoring service we had was terrible so we decided we needed to change everything.  This ADT representative gave us his cell phone number and claimed that the service we would get would be personal and we could reach them any time for any questions (Ha! what a lie!!).  Anyway this guy named DARREN finally convinced us to purchase $2000 worth of equipment with a 3 yr. monitoring contract.

 But get this, He NEVER told us that the smoke detectors that were hard-wired into our home would be deactivated because they were NOT COMPATIBLE with the ADT system.  He then replaced those with ONLY 2 ADT monitored smoke detectors and we have 3 floors in our house (there wasn't even a smoke detector working on the main floor of the house!!!").  So we had a fire in our sunroom 2 wks. ago but luckily the fire dept. was able to contain it before it got into the house.  But there was plenty of smoke that came into the house, NO SMOKE ALARMS WENT OFF because they had been deactivated!!!  So now our house is less secured in the event  of a fire than it was before we switched to ADT.  SO WE ARE MORE SECURED IN THE EVENT OF A BURGLARY BUT WE WILL LIKELY DIE IF THERE IS A FIRE IN OUR HOUSE!!!  We called this DARREN guy and he no longer works for Defender Security.  And since it's over 90 days since we signed the contract we're now part of the national ADT service, i.e., AGAIN NO PERSONAL SERVICE!!

 We have been transferred from one dumb customer representative to another and NO BODY can help us or tell us why the smoke alarms were set up this way.  I have asked for one more smoke detector to be installed on the main floor but ADT won't even do that for free after we spent over $2000 with them!!!  I am so frustrated right now and feel so cheated by the system.  PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THOSE FLYERS YOU GET IN THE MAIL FOR ADT SECURITY SYSTEM.  ADT SUCKS!!!!

Hi, I am so sorry to hear about your horrible situation! I work for ADT and wanted to give you a few tips... 1.) ADT has a 6 month money back guarantee, call corporate and complain complain complain!!! 2.) Protect your home is a dealer of ADT, not ADT themselves, and unfortunately, as a sales rep of ADT I can tell you that Darren ripped you off... Your hardwired equipment is completely compatible to ANY system, all they would have had to do is test the new control panel they put in to see which entry point the issue was coming from and replace the contact piece (those cost us about $1.00 but we sell them from anywhere from $50-75 per contact... rip off, I know) that had a problem- You didnt need ANY new contacts (especially if they were only a few years old)... Also, most dealers will give you a control panel, keypad, some contacts, and an infrared motion for free (well plus $99 activation fee, which some dealers will waive, making the system completely free)... If worst comes to worst just add on a 3rd fire system... Id start by calling corporate offices and complaining and tell them you want your money back (6 month money back guarantee)... HOpe this helps!
