I am very unhappy with Providian. For a company who advertises helping one rebuild their credit they certainly didn't help me!

When I began having financial hardship, I phoned them to work out a payment plan. I really needed them to quit adding interest and late fees which were increasing my debt to them. They refused.

Once they knew of my difficulty to repay in a timeley manner the harrassing phone calls began. The phone calls were so numerous, the stress of knowing I was getting deeper into debt with them on top of everything else led me into deep depression.

I finally went to a consumer debt counselor to help negotiate for me. Of the bills that I have paid off, Providian is the only one not to accept a settlement.

#3 Consumer Comment

What an idiot, typical moron that you would speak to on the phone if you called Providian

AUTHOR: Shawn - (U.S.A.)

I read John's rebuttal to this and he is a typical moron that you would speak to on the phone if you called Providian.

I agree that contracts should be honored, and debts should be paid. You are dealing with human beings who are subject to an employment market that has not exactly been booming over the past few years. Is that Kim's fault? Or were we knocked into a recession by people like John who focus on the bottom line and "disregard emotion"
Hey John! Enron disregarded emotion. So did Arthur Andersen, and World Com, etc etc.
People like you created the problem, so you really should consider working with your customers instead of alienating them.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Wouldn't You Want to Work With the Consumer?

AUTHOR: S.n. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, June 27, 2004

I have read many reports on this site regarding people who have had major money problems due to loss of job or illness. I don't fall into this catagory, but I do not understand why these companies would not be willing to work with the consumer instead of forcing people into bankruptcy to avoid the high interest charges and late fees. I have a company and have had clients who could not pay me because they were not being paid. I have done my best to work with them and let them pay me without trying to take advantage of them. It was only when I knew they were avoiding speaking with me about their late bills that I canceled their contracts. Their late payments may have created a cash flow problem but it beat not being paid at all.

#1 UPDATE Employee

Whose responsibility is it anyway?

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

Kim,
What makes you think that ANY company, in business to earn a profit for its employees and shareholders, has any obligation to you to 'quit adding interest and late fees which were increasing my debt to them' ??

If you enter into a contract to borrow money, then cannot pay it back, for whatever reason, NO ONE is obligated to bend over due to your problems. While some companies MAY waive fees and interest, NO ONE is required to do so.

It also never ceases to amaze me when people here write about a 'rip off', and go into wailing and moaning about their emotional suffering, as though somehow, the emotional aspect is the most important-- ITS THE LEAST IMPORTANT ASPECT.

Stick to the FACTS OF THE CASE! Wailing, moaning, and teeth-gnashing about how you FEEL is not legitimate complaining about a business or entity.
