Providian was first credit card I had after my divorce, high interest of 20% but a necessary evil. Have had that card for almost 10 years.

3 months ago after Washington Mutual bought Providian, they raised the interest rate without notice to 30%. I noticed it in the payment amount.

I contacted the company who said I should be recieving a notice SOON and to wait 3 to 5 days. Complaints of the payment due went unresolved. I paid it, waited 10 days called again. The company stated they would send something, I insisted I should be able to close the account under my original terms and refuse the new terms(have done this with other companies). I was refused, told they did not have to honor that and could change the rate at any time. Refused to allow me to talk with a supervisor, when I called back to speak to someone else they hung up on me.

3 days later I got a letter stating "Thank you fo contacting us in reguard to your account. Please accept this letter as confirmation hat your account has been updated with you RECENT ANNUAL PERCENTAGE RATE.

Another letter confirming the closing of the account.

Ripoff.30% I could get better from a loan shark especially on an existing balance. NO other company operates this way.

Customer service is horrible

AUTHOR: Celine - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 07, 2006

I obtained a providian card right out of high school fully realizing that 22 percent was high but I had no choice with "ghost" credit.

It steadily went up to 30 percent, even though I was never late. Forget trying to get through to anyone on the phone. I could barely understand what they were saying!

Shouldn't there be a law against this kind of thing; its criminal.

Online bill pay!!

AUTHOR: Jenny - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 30, 2006

If at all possible use online bill pay through your bank, that way you have your bank to back you up, if they try to say you didn't pay on time. I used to have big trouble with another credit card pulling the same crap. Ever since I started using my banks OBP, i have never had a problem. They are not about to go tell a bank they didn't pay it.

been there too

AUTHOR: D - (U.S.A.)

I feel your anguish. I have been there too. Nothing surprises me anymore about credit card companies. It's time we all pay off our cards and live on a cash basis only. Starve the credit card companies to DEATH. Giggle with glee as they go t**s up, one company at a time.

Washington Mutual bought Providian OH BOY!

AUTHOR: Lee - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, April 23, 2006

HELLO LIKE MOST OF YOU I HAVE PROVIDIAN FOR YEARS.
I HAVE ALLWAYS PAID ON TIME AND HAVE HAD NO TROUBLE. UNTIL NOW I MAIL OUT MY BILLS THE 3RD.OF THE MONTH. NOW WASHINGTON MUTUAL HAS BOUGHT THEM,
I RECEIVED A 35.00 LATE FEE NOTICE, CALLED THEM
UP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE COMPUTER IS NOT
SHOWING A PAID BILL. I HAVE A DUPLICATE CHECK BOOK
I TOLD HER THE CHECK NUMBER ETC. I WILL CALL MY BANK AND FIND OUT IF THE CHECK WAS CASHED. I HAVE A FEELING IT WAS,FOR 5 YEARS I HAD PROVIDIAN NEVER WAS LATE. I WILL SEE IF THIS COMPANY NOW
IS GOING TO DO TO YOU TO ME. IT TOOK 8 MIN FOR SOMEONE TO PICK THE PHONE UP,THANKING THEY MUST BE DOING THIS TO EVERYONE. THAT IS WHY EVERONE IS CALLING. BUT IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU IS GET YOUR MESSAGE ON BLOG SITES. THEY WILL NOTICE THE BUSINESS FALLING.

MILLIONS OF PEOPLE READ BLOG SITES. I KNEW WHEN BUSH ENTERED THE BANKRUPTCY LAW
HIS FRIENDS WOULD MAKE OUT. PEOPLE MUST STOP USING CREDIT CARDS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, START A BOYCOTT ON THEM, THERE HIGH INTREST RATES,THEY SUCK YOU IN WITH LOW INTREST RATES THEN RAISE THEM.WHAT THIVESOR ONLY CHARGE WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD TO PAY THAT MONTH. POST YOUR MESSAGE ON BLOG SITES.AND YOU WILL STOP THEM WITHOUT THE SMALL PEOPLE THERE WOULD BE NO LARGE COMPANIES.
