We were on our honeymoon and were convinced to go listen to the sales pitch at Sunset Tres Rios in exchange for a Chef's Dinner later in the week (which we never got and made to look like idiots at the front gate of Tres Rios when they wouldn't allow us in or even let us talk to someone that spoke English). Once we got to the sales talk, we were told by multiple people that it would be "no pressure" and "no obligation to buy" and would only last approximately 90-120minutes. Instead, we were there for 6+hours! It started with breakfast around 9am and then we got a short tour of the resort while being told some of the benefits to joining as a member. It was very hot and we were told we were going into air conditioning to get final information and to see if we wanted to buy in. As soon as we got into the "numbers" room, they started giving us alcohol and the room was still way too warm for comfort. We kept an open mind like they asked but said we just could not afford it at this time. After saying no, they had someone else come over and decreased the amount we would owe all the while giving us more alcoholic drinks. After multiple times of saying no, the pressure increased, and more people came over to try to convince us. All of their promises and explanations sounded great but as newlyweds, we just couldn't commit to spending money right then. We stated multiple times that we were ready to go back to our resort and that we were hungry and hot. They wouldn't take no for an answer and continued to change numbers, bombard us with promises of "free, all inclusive" vacations within the next year and even stated that we could use it as a second honeymoon or anniversary trip. Eventually, even though it sounded too good to be true, we were exhausted, hungry, and intoxicated and they gave us an offer that we agreed to - a 10year period - 10 weeks at one of the Sunset Resorts paying only the all inclusive fee, 30 International weeks at 4-5star resorts anywhere in the world for $449usd/week, and 10 Getaway weeks for $199/week (making the reservation 2-30 days prior to travel). They said it would include a "cruise certificate, dream week certificate, and a fun pack certificate" which we were promised were all inclusive vacations. We were also promised that we would receive the certificates that same day. Our main selling point was the "dream week certificate" which we were told would be an all inclusive trip to a place of our choosing and when we mentioned Australia, they said absolutely. We were shown the ICE rewards website and given examples of all of the wonderful places we would be able to go. We again stated we were hungry and hot but they just gave us more alcoholic drinks and brought a ton of paperwork for us to sign. In the paperwork, it stated that we wouldn't get the certificates until the down payment was completed. When we questioned it, they said that we would get descriptions that day but that the certificates would not arrive until two months later once the down payment was complete. The paperwork also listed a completely different website from what they showed us (they showed us the ICE website and the paperwork said PuraVida lifestyles website) but when we questioned it, they said "it is the same thing, don't worry". We asked to see the website on the paperwork but they said they couldn't pull it up but that they promised it's the same. Due to all of the pressure and the fact that we were intoxicated, we let it go and continued signing. After all of the paperwork was signed they had promised us to get a very late lunch at Tres Rios before driving back to the resort we were staying at but instead, we were escorted out to the shuttle and had to wait even longer to get food. The next day we were second guessing our decision but wanted to enjoy the rest of our honeymoon. Friday night, after we went back to Tres Rios for the Chef's dinner that we were "gifted", it was a complete fiasco and we looked like idiots sitting at the front gate trying to call our resort and member services because my little Spanish was not enough to communicate with the front gate and they wouldn't let us past. So we had to return the 20min drive to our resort and there was no attempt made to correct their error just given the answer "these things happen". The next morning we made the decision go cancel our membership but were not able to get through via phone (we assumed it was because it was a weekend). We got back to the US Sunday morning and on Monday we attempted to call member services to inform them of our intention to cancel. We looked up ratings and realized that they charge extra for everything and that they are dishonest about what the certificates are as well as where the international weeks can be redeemed. We were unable to get past automated recording so I contacted my credit card company to start a reversal of the charges. We read through our entire packet and realized that there were no descriptions of the certificates. We were finally contacted back from Pura Vida on Wednesday, one day after the "cancellation" period but the representative said it won't be a problem to cancel, just email the reasons for our cancellation. We emailed our cancellation and are writing a request to cancel via registered mail as well. We were contacted a few days ago saying our request to cancel was not approved and that they will cancel the services but that they would send the remaining amount to a collection agency. This whole thing is a rip-off!!
