Alamo claims I damaged a car rental and put me in collections through Purco. I called Purco, and they do not have a dispute process, they make you responsible end of story. I explained when I returned  the car rental, I had large oversized bags, and the clerk from Alamo was kind enough to drive me to my gate. Once I got home a few months later I had a package fromPurco attempting to collect $1600 for a bumber repair. It's been 5 years now, and this still haunts me. This collection has ruined my credit score and ability to apply for a low interest auto loan. It's basically their word agains mine. I refuse to pay or settle since it is NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY. I even hired a credit repair company hoping that they could effectively dispute the collection but $500 later nothing could be done.

What can I do?

Alamo claims I damaged a car rental and put me in collections through Purco. I called Purco, and they make you responsible end of story. I explained when I returned  the car rental, I had large oversized bags, and the clerk from Alamo was kind enough to drive me to my gate he did not inspect the car for damages. A few months later I had a package fromPurco attempting to collect $1,262.60 ($193 for loss of use, $150 for administrative fees and $918 for bumper repairs). It's been 4 years now, and this still haunts me. This collection has ruined mycredit score and ability to apply for a low interest loan. It's basically their word agains mine. I refuse to pay or settle since it is NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY. I even hired a credit repair company hoping that they could effectively dispute the collection but $500 later nothing could be done.

What can I do?

--------------------------------

I spoke with Purco after my post, they are calling the rental company to see if there is any footage with damage made to the car rental by an employee during my rental period in 2009 (eeek). Also, my collection is for $1,262.60 . I asked about their dispute process and they said I had a chance to write a letter in 2009, the company I hired this year wrote letters in May. The basis for their claim can be summed up with this commnet "we are not stating you personally caused  the damage, we are stating the damaged was caused during your rental period".
