I was across the street from my car when it was towed away. Yes there was a no-stopping zone from 4to 6 pm but not only did they immediately tow my car away after 4pm along with a $60 ticket. But they made no effort to locate me as they wrote out on their receipt/ report.

After realizing my car was taken, I went immediately to the tow yard two miles away. I waited forty minutes for my car to come back in. They towed my car as quick as possible and did all the logistics/paperwork involving my car elsewhere.

They charged $86 for the tow fee claiming they charge $86/hr. A rather expensive tow for two miles. Then they charge $40 in LA Administration Fee, a city fee or something. What is that? Anyways, because of their policies, I was out $126 total for leaving my car a little past 4pm. This is the scum that our city supports- the corruption spreads across many levels.

AUTHOR: Jeannie - (U.S.A.)

This is totally bogus and of course I'm going to sue these guys. This car I was driving got impounded for $1000. And state's law for my 1 day impounded was less than $400. =(

Way too fast...

IIRC, in LA, they can't tow unless an LAPD officer is present. If the owner gets to the car BEFORE the truck enters a traffice lane, they have to drop the car. You still pay the ticket but don't get towed.

What's the problem?

AUTHOR: Terry - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, July 03, 2002

So, you broke the law, and the city/tow truck enforced the law. What's the problem? Do they have a duty to attempt to locate you? No. Should they give a grace period after 4:00? Should it be 4:05? 4:10? 6:00? No. The sign says no stopping from 4 to 6. What about that don't you understand?
